The second half was extremely promising. The Cats never quit, even after the X 8-0 run to rebuild the 11-point deficit at the under 4:00 media TO. DDJ put the team on his back. They just ran out of time.
    Really impressed by DDJ.

      Ken Pomeroy:

Re: Wes Miller's timeout hack. There's no question it's easier to score off a throw-in. You get a free untimed pass. NBA actually made a rule about 40 years ago to eliminate this loophole in the timeout rules. College will get there eventually, I guess.

Makes sense to take the technical if you're going to have a 3/4 heave left anyway. There was only .9 on the clock. I'm honestly kind of impressed he thought of that. I don't think I've ever seen that done on purpose. We've all seen Chris Webber do it by accident.

-Two things stuck out to me in the this game:

Big Vik can play but he needs to stay on the court. Too many silly fouls. That said, he almost had a double double again in limited miinutes. He might the most improved guy on the floor for us.

Landers Nolley is too talented to disappear for an entire half. We (He?) need to figure something out there. Nolley needs to take the ball to the hole more often. Good things happen when he draws defenders.

-Other observations: Xavier scouted DDJ's step back really well. He was getting nothing in the 1st on that move.

Jeremiah Davenport can't be on the floor if he's not hitting offensively. He shot us out of the first half of that game and gave up just as many on defense. The freshmen need to play over him strictly based on his shot selection. It's garbage.

Kenyon in the locker room at the half seemed to have woken them up. Very impressed that they didn't wilt down 17.

Good: I thought Adams-Woods played a solid game. Lahkin and Oguama were outstanding. Dejulius took the game into his hands late and delivered. Nolley has got to play both halves but was solid in the second.

Bad: The team cannot defend at all. Davenport especially. Though X has some pretty potent players on offense. UC shot 63% FGs in the second half, which is how they made the comeback. If UC had defended more effectively, they may have won the game.

Bottom line is another loss to those douche-bags from Norwood.

you think............ with his weak defense and worse passing when he's hitting he gets 10 gives up 20. He may be tight with CWM, but he is a liability. The team came back with him on the bench. He came back played putrid defense and was quickly yanked. He deserved that. The team deserves better

Thoughts: Brannen wrecked this team. We lost today because we still have mostly Brannen personnel.

The lumps we take today are hard because with few less fouls, two more made shots, and a few defensive lapses, we win by 15. Wes didn’t miss shots, miss assignments, or commit fouls. The personnel on the floor did. Wes has two 4 star freshmen, Reed and Skillings, plus two four star signed recruits next year, Jizzle and Griffith, so far. Add in 4 star recruit Hensley in year two. Wes gets 3 more years, especially as talent improves. We will get killed in Big 12 next year, but it will prep us to compete and surprise a few teams along the way.

BTW the refs called some bad fouls against our Cats
Red and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.

                Intimidate! Dominate! Celebrate!

CWM mentioned that JD had bad matchups against Nunge and Freemantle, he’s just not able to guard skilled bigs.

I'm ready to say bye bye to every member on this team. I can see why Penny wasn't shedding any tears for landers leaving. This guy disappears more than bigfoot. This team sucks. This coach aint no Roy Williams, and doesn't know defensive bball. He has failed to impress me even a little. I can't believe Davenport is still getting playing time let alone starting. He shoots us out of more games than Landers Nolley turns over the ball. It's no wonder we have no leadership with these two "bulls in a china shop" clod hopping up and down the court just throwing balls up. All the portal guys are a waste of recruitment. We're getting better at going backwards instead of progressing. Do they even play bball in practice? I've never seen a team that can't make a shot in their home field worse than this team. I knew what the outcome of this game was going to be before it even started. I recorded it and just watched the first half before deleting it. This is a worse bball product than what Tony Yates' put on the floor. At least they defended a little. Get ready to be confronted with some very bleak years lingering in the lower tiers of the big twelve.

My reaction was based on the first half, and I stand by it. But I believe CWM is the coach to lead us into the Big 12. This team showed more heart in the 2nd half than I thought they had in them, and I give CWM credit for that. He’s looking for some size to spell Vik and Ody, and so far Ezikpe and Tolentino haven’t been able to provide those minutes. I note that Ody played more minutes than JD. There are games and situations where JD can be effective, but down low guarding Nunge or Freemantle was a really bad matchup for him. CWM admitted that after the game. If we had more depth at the 4-5 JD wouldn’t have been in that situation.

Why would Kelvin Sampson care about Landers Nolley leaving Memphis? And no, this team is nowhere near the miserable state of the program in the 1980s.

Overall, this analysis is overly bleak. There are flaws at present, but I'm satisfied that this program will be fine.

or quick talented smaller ones. Plus CWM didn't address his wretched passing which was only exceeded by his shot selection. The announcers continually called it. I am tired of CWM softselling JD's play and not discussing his complete game. He needs to sit.
