If UC is interested in hiring J. Calhoun, it must wait because Utah State beat UNLV by 20 yesterday and is still rolling in tournament play. Also, my guess is that Utah State will get an NCAA Tournament bid regardless of what happens in the MW Conference Tournament. UC has probably already talked with the candidates that it has on its list of potential coaches. With Zoom and Microsoft Teams, anyone can talk with anyone else without spending money on travel and lodging. Also, the parties can talk behind the scenes. If Calhoun is the guy that UC wants and he has accepted an offer, then they may already have an agreement that nothing will be made official until after April 1, 2026. My guess is that both parties have already been in discussions. However, because of the legal aspects of the situation, they are doing everything behind the scenes until they can go public.

Be mindful of there is no guarantee that Calhoun finds UC an attractive place to coach. Right now, Calhoun is a hot item and many schools are perhaps chasing him. However, from the reports that I have read, the media considers UC has a very attractive place to coach. Who knows what is going to happen next.

By the way, I saw a report last night that Casey Alexander DID accept the K-State job. Good luck to him.

I'm young enough that the only jersey I remember "seeing" retired was Kmart. If memory serves, Kenyon was a consensus national player of the year. That's a pretty big deal. While I absolutely love Killa (again, if memory serves on the nickname), I don't think his accolades measured quite that high - at least on a national scale.

Both great players. I agree it has to be hard to win such an honor. Being the second leading scorer and best of his era counts, but does it count enough.

And other players, like Ron Bonham for example, averaged more per game, but played without the three point shot when freshman were ineligible. Given that fourth season Bonham would probably be the second leading scorer, even without the three point shot, and in far fewer games.

I acknowledged that in a prior post The thing is Sean spoke up about Miller and was basically censored. That belongs in this post. Who is pulling such strings about Miller that they try to silence an all time great.

or Miller hopefully was the program. Folks I am still upset with the way the Cats lost. Has anybody ever seen such poor coaching from a Bearcat sideline in the past. Miller was frozen and all he could do was keep the same bunch out there as Terry nelson said blew the lead.

The 2018 Meltdown had to be the worst. Up 20 at halftime, and totally out coached in the 2nd half was the most disappointing for me.

And remember they blew a double digit second half lead against Iowa in the NCAA the next year.

Not one of these Coaches are a PROVEN winner at Big Level. All currently coach in smaller leagues like the Moutain West - Utah State. I understand Utah State will join the Pac 12 in July and will play slightly better competition.

Again, it's not a Proven Front Runner who has shown he's capable at coaching in the Big 12. So the best UC can do is hire another WM or Brannen with no proven track record. Does this program not deserve someone who has proven they can coach in the SEC, ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big 10 etc...?

It's not like UC is the smallest school out of all the above leagues I mentioned. Pitino makes roughly the same amount of $$$ as Wes, at least on paper.

I have a hard time believing this University can only attract lower level coaches and can't persuade a front runner at UC. UC will have to ante up and pay someone to turn this around. Paying someone like Wes $2.95M is not going to get the job done.

Jerrod Calhoun — Utah State, Age 44
Bob Huggins disciple, Calhoun built Youngstown State from scratch before big time success at Utah State, leading them to the NCAA Tournament and showing he can navigate the portal extremely well. He graduated from UC and served as a student assistant under Huggins.

Josh Schertz — Saint Louis, Age 50
A lot of teams will be after him, 32 wins at Indiana State in 2023-24 and now has Saint Louis tracking toward the NCAA Tournament. Probably the top target out there.

Casey Alexander — Belmont, Age 53
Alexander has won at least 20 games in each of his past 10 seasons as a head coach and is considered one of the top evaluators of high school talent in the country. He’s been resistant to leaving in the past but is expected to be a hot commodity this time.

Gerry McNamara — Siena, Age 42
He spent 15 seasons on Jim Boeheim’s staff and just led Siena to the NCAA Tournament in his second year, going 22-11. But limited head coaching experience at the high-major level.

Ben Jacobson — Northern Iowa, Age 55
A veteran mid-major coach with a long track record of success in the Missouri Valley, Jacobson has been mentioned alongside Calhoun and Alexander as candidates for Midwest power-conference openings.

and what did Croin get after that loss. A trip to LA. -- Again, He tried replacing players and not just let it go frozen on the sideline.

Those were all horrible losses, but Miller didn't even bother to call a TO till less than a second. His best playing guard rode the bench during that time. I know you all are tired of my rant, but I had really hoped for a showing against UA and a chance for the dance. Highly disappointed. I wonder about other things too.
