Tyson Foods will make Cal very rich

No one here is crying for the college of central Ohio at Columbus.

Matt Norlander of CBS tweeted last night that Calipari had serious interest in Ohio State but the timing wasn't right. The more I think about this, the crazier it is/maddening it could be if you were an Ohio State fan not too fixated on spring football:

    - OSU fires Chris Holtmann in mid-February, which was intended to be a strategic/competitive advantage by getting a head start and probably lining up resources for the future hire -- outgoing AD Gene Smith was making his last big decision
    - OSU has a strong end of the season, forcing them to seriously consider retaining interim/associate head coach Jake Diebler (all while it becomes clear they are not likely to make a true "splash" hire)
    - OSU ultimately makes the safe, short term move in hiring Diebler; they probably could have gotten Dusty May, who ends up signing with rival school Michigan
    - Coaching carousel going crazy, and the dominoes will fall with Calipari's move -- OSU will be sitting on the sidelines with potential more big names willing to make moves now
    - Net result: OSU pays a lot of money to fire coach, keep the assistant for a cheap contract, while retaining some of the key returning players for 24-25 ... we will see how this plays out (could be a good hire over time, but seems pretty "meh" now)

Wow… obviously recruits could follow him. But remember Travis Perry picked UK over UC? UC was once in on Somto Cyril and could use a big.

Now, Pete Thamel confirms that they are working on a 5-year deal that they expect to finalize within 24 hours. There is no buyout in Cal's contract and UK would owe him nothing.

Matt Norlander of cbssports.com reports that UK has been notified, per Cal's contract requirements, that he is negotiating with the Razorbacks. Norlander also mentioned that Cal is close to members of the Tyson family, who apparently are involved.

Trilly Donovan (who has yet to be unmasked) stated that the UK coaches have been contacting their recruits with the aim of guiding them to Fayetteville.

Dominos. Brad Stevens, Jay Wright, Dan Hurley. And everyone of them will probably say no.
