It is hard to bring value sitting on the bench due to lack of hustle etc. Sedz it would be interesting to see stats from say the last 10 games. I still say there are more things causing a turnover(Teammate out of position, half effort, no communication, no help by screens and other things) and an assist than just the end number. To me, that is called Basketball. It is still supposed to be a team game although I see less and less of that.

Unfortunately I can't filter advanced player stats by last 10 games on the free site I use (Torvik) and I don't feel like calculating it myself. I can filter team stats, and we have a 17% turnover rate in the last 10 games, exactly at the national average.Originally posted by leo from jersey View Post

Stats of any kind for individuals are never going to give a complete picture of team performance - best to stick to team stats for that. But they're a good tool for answering questions like "is Simas a good ballhandler?" I think advanced stats are more reliable than notoriously fickle human memory.

again many variables in a game and that is why we play it. Thanks though/Originally posted by sedz View PostUnfortunately I can't filter advanced player stats by last 10 games on the free site I use (Torvik) and I don't feel like calculating it myself. I was just wondering. If a guy is hot, he may draw a better defender and the chances for tos might be greater. he may also be double teamed. Another thin is what if his teammates don't pay attention when he has the ball and has to eat it or try to pass in an awkward situation. Would that change the stats. Having different defenders might. If that is the case if the ballhandler succeeds some of the time while not having the higher percentage due to different defenses set up, that may cause a difference in stats. So much to a game. Stats are good and it creates conversation, but they always don't produce wins.

Individual player stats don't produce wins, and I've never said otherwise. They are one tool to evaluate your roster and strategy, which is what we as fans do here on the forum.Originally posted by leo from jersey View PostI was just wondering. Edit: to directly answer your question, yes. If a guy is hot and drawing double teams and getting in awkward situations all the time, it very likely means he has a high usage rate. Turnover rate is adjusted for usage rate. That's what makes it better than simply the raw number of turnovers.Last edited by sedz; 03-25-2024, 05:08 PM.

Groovy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one more thing some guys make more TOs in crunch time. I have seen that on this team and it is hard to put that in the equation. Some are calm. I guess that is why the Coach designs the play for them.Originally posted by sedz View PostIndividual player stats don't produce wins, and I've never said otherwise. For that you'd need a pay service like Synergy Sports, which I'm sure someone on UC's staff is using. They use play by play data, video, and even player tracking to come up with all kinds of interesting stats.Originally posted by leo from jersey View Post

Back to our NIT opponent, Synergy says Indiana St is tied for third best shot selection in the country.

I'm going to say no because the previous game starts at 7:00 and it's also televised on ESPN. If you have ESPN+, it'll probably be live. For those without streaming, you'll likely have to pick up your phone and watch it in the app until the previous game finishes (again).Originally posted by DesertFog View PostSo if the game is on ESPN+ does that mean that it will likely start on time? I am really annoyed when the tip off is late.
I'm glad it's on ESPN proper and I'm hoping we get a proper camera crew as well and not whatever the Sycamores can cobble together on short notice.Brent Wyrick

ESPN games that are to start before the preceding game ends usually begin on ESPNNews (207 on DirecTV), then switch to ESPN after Game 1 ends.Originally posted by Lobot View Post

Thanks for all the great stats SEDZ. With a team like the Cats, who jack up 3s in the mid 30s, it's run down the court and shoot if open. That type of play won't generate many realistic TO stats. When I question Simas' handles, I'm just going on what I've seen - especially if/when he attempts to get into the paint. If he's hot, he's great (from outside). But if he misses his first few attempts, he stops shooting. I guess he loses confidence. Volume shooters can't stop. Newman went 0/10 and he's not a volume shooter, but he kept trying. Simas does have good floor vision which helps, but you don't want him at PG. And at 6'8", I want him banging the boards. Averaging 30 min/game he should have a lot more rebounds. I hope his 3 defense is hot tomorrow night.Originally posted by sedz View PostIndividual player stats don't produce wins, and I've never said otherwise. SL is our best 3 point threat. It's hard to be banging the boards when plays are designed to get him open 3 point shots. In his defense I have seen him battle for rebounds.Originally posted by WestCoastAlum View Post

I agree he's our best 3 pt threat, so let's hope he makes more than his season average.Originally posted by Jeff Burk View Post

Jizzle made a classy move at the end of the Bradley presser by extending his hand to Wes for a handshake, not a low 5. I think it was to thank Wes for having confidence in him. It startled Wes, didn't know what to do. He should have returned a hand shake which is much more personal than that slap, but.............just saying.

My exact thought. While a player must be ready to do whatever it takes, it always takes playing your role. On defense he rebounds and he a very good outlet pass. When there are 5 players 6 ft 10 or more, the goal is for them to get the major share. That frees SL for other things - like shooting, handling the ball and communicating. On defense (man to man) his guy is usually playing away from the basket.Originally posted by Jeff Burk View Post

The bigs will have to continue making the good screens and we need good ball movement (His shots are often his making, but also a result of team play). The ISU team has studied the main play to get him open, so CWM will have to run some new ones. Just the threat of him might open up the inside where their 21 isn't at his best. CWM knows this and has planned. More lobs to Aziz and hopefully Reynolds and Vik feel like playing.Originally posted by WestCoastAlum View Post
