  • 2024-2025 College Basketball General Discussion

When a P5 school needs a home game that they plan to use as a tune-up, they look to the ranks of the low majors (think UAPB). But what do the low majors do to get in a game that they're pretty sure they can win? They dip into the programs below D1 (often well below). Cases in point:

Tonight, Lindenwood, of the OVC, will take on The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (NAIA), based in St. Louis. Digging even deeper, the Delta Devils of MS Valley State have invited The MS University for Women (NCAA D3) to Itta Bena. The MUW have been coed since 1982 and now have a student body ratio of 7:1 women to men.

Good for everyone. Those tiny colleges get some exposure, and the low major D1 schools get a rare non-con home game.

Ratio of 7:1? I should have attended there. lol.

A close family friend at Kentucky State (low level D2) got to play against X at Cintas in an exhibition game years ago due to some connection between the coaching staffs.

X won convincingly but my friend ended up being the high scorer in the game. He had to overcome some very difficult situations to get to that point in his career so it was great to see him perform against such high competition.

College basketball is great because the (relatively) flexible nature of scheduling allows for some real cool opportunities/match-ups.

This probably should go in a different thread but since you asked:

Simas, Day Day, CJ Fredrick, Aziz, CJ Anthony (walkon) and Connor Hickman are all out of eligibility.

Skillings was expected to leave early and now he's hurt so that's a question mark.

The future of JJ Rembert( freshman walk on) is possibly a question mark because of the changes to roster limits happening next year. Roster limits will replace scholarship limits and now you can load up to 15 players on the bench under NIL but walk ons will be a thing of the past most likely. I'm not sure what they'll do here to be honest.

There's some question as to whether Aziz has another year because of the confusing situation concerning his transfer and lawsuit. As far as Anthony is concerned, he and CWM are handling him as a red-shirt, so that he can play elsewhere for his final year. He had let CWM know a while back that he wanted to spend four years at UC, even if he wasn't playing. He knows he's not going to play much, if at all, here this season.

The lower bowl sections for UC are 112-128.

The SEC is insane this year. They occupy 4 of the top 8 spots in Torvik's rankings. Half the conference is in the top 30. The worst team is LSU at 65, and they are 2-0 against the Big12 with wins at KState and against UCF on a neutral floor. And that's the WORST team in the SEC. I can't remember a conference this strong in all my years following basketball.

Utah State is 10-0 under first year head coach Jerrod Calhoun, an 04 UC grad who coached Youngstown State the last several years
