I'd guess Ray earned it by performing well in practice. There are enough other options on the bench who Wes could have gone too, that it's more likely something Ray did to get the minutes.

Don't think I would've predicted at the start of the night that Hickman, Rayvon and CJ would play a combined 41 minutes and get outscored by Dzellat who played 2.

This was pure playground ball tonight. The worse part about it was that they got outscored by a lot by one guy at the end of the game.

Not too concerned about the effort put forth by the team in the last few minutes as it was a blowout. But I am concerned about the sloppy passes and the inability for us to run out a offense against this team for almost the entire game. The tendency to just jack up threes reared it's ugly head last night and that is a habit we do not want to get back into. Here's hoping this was just a "three point shooting contest between these two teams.

Once again, despite the hype, UC lacks a floor leader. People go wild over a made three. Kelsey Conway sure did about Thomas and CWM quickly quieted her concerning Thomas' lackluster play. Jizzle was worse with wretched passing and the me me me approach when he has the ball in his hands. Sure, he likes to showboat with the lob inside, but folks that was not the 7 ft 2 Dickinson of Kansas playing. UC is at the point where they can stick with Kansas or should. I don't see that without a point guard. Yeah, he had 5 assists, but I doubt if X's inside game will allow the lobs. He needs to figure out what he is - a hero ball player or a floor leader. The PGs set the stage for the rest of the team. Thus, hero ball 3 pointers jacks and no passing to brag on. Thomas couldn't play perimeter defense last night. He will be up against some quality guards real soon. If you say, I am not saying anything positive, while I am following CWM who said for the first time he had nothing positive to say about the Cats except a win. They played below the standard which he expects. Did anybody else hear him after the game. He lost it and said G-D once and almost a second time. His halftime interview with Conway showed his impatience with her attempt to be positive when she clearly didn't see the actual play on the court. I like this team, but CWM has got to get into their heads for an adjustment. I have never seen the emotion which he had last night. It reminded me of one Mr. Huggins. My hope is that CWM gets through to them as Mr. Huggins did.

Am I the only totally confused by this? That's hard to do and he was a 60% FT shooter last season which is not great but it's not this for sure. I wonder if they're trying to tinker with his form and it's made it worse?

I thought the Cats brought in a "shot doctor".

Does he even do free throws? I honestly don't know.

I have think this is a mental preparation issue with Mitchell. He's got the yips or something

Then he needs a trip to the doctor. We both know how he will be handled inside when the competition heats up. Many teams have many players.

In Millers presser he said Ala was baiting them to shoot threes which our guys "took " said bait. I referred to as a pi$$ing contest in an earlier post before I watched the presser. All I know is they came out from the get go playing hero ball as Leo calls it, and not working their typical offense. We have a more competent opponent next so we will get a better handle on what this team is about

Jizzle takes player of the game for the second consecutive outing, putting up 6.4 net points. He was good on both sides of the ball. 12 points from the field on only 9 shots with only two midrange attempts. Simas, Aziz, Mitchell, and Page also had solid games with BPMs above 10. Page was our best defender.

Hickman had the worst game with negative 7 net points, joining Betsey and Rayvon as poor performers.

Day Day went 3 of 4 from deep but also turned it over 4 times with no assists.

The best player overall was Alabama State's Amarr Knox who put up 8.7 net points, scoring an efficient 24 points with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.

The offense wasn't that bad. We got to the rim 27 times, which hero ball or not is a recipe for efficiency. We scored 48 in the first half and had 71 with 6 minutes left before we ran out the second unit.

Mitchell is under 50% on free throws in his career. I don't think he's going to become a good FT shooter no matter what the staff does.

Mitchell is the only player among those who have shot a decent number of free throws who is struggling. Even Aziz, who was problematic at best at the line last year, is 9/12. Arrinten Page is 15/20. Bigs who attack the glass are going to get fouled. The Cats not named Mitchell are 48/67 (71.6%). If I'm an opposing coach, I'm fouling Mitchell at every chance, until he proves he can correct the problem.

Even Rayvon, who has not shown an ability to shoot during the run of play, is 5/5 at the line.

those stats don't manage the passes never made or the ones which gets teammates out of position. His ball handling was dreadful and must drastically improve for him to be the real star of the game. It is the things which he didn't do that separates a stat man from a star.
