Yesterday's UC-X game probably was one of the best UC games I have ever seen. They reminded me of one of the old Bearcat teams that used to win when they had bad scoring nights. UC had a hard time scoring throughout the game. However, at the 7:46 mark of the second half, UC went on a 22-12 run to end the game. UC held Xavier for 2:10 without scoring during the run to give UC the edge.
The TV executives that decided NOT to broadcast the game nationally, truly missed out on a great college basketball game yesterday. A very entertaining game even with all of the BONE- HEADED mistakes by UC players.
We all bash Coach Miller all of the time for his losses, but you got to give him credit for having UC READY TO PLAY yesterday. It did not always go well, but Coach Miller had UC basketball ready to play.Last edited by leeraymond; 12-15-2024, 12:33 PM.

He didn't play a perfect game, but he was what the Cats needed when few were contributing. He ran the offense for a bit and it resulted in points. He rebounded and was possibly the best defender. Most of al,l he was calm and played basketball. That is floor leadership which is so lacking among the so called better players. I am glad he is here and if he fizzles out the rest of the year, he was a major part in beating X. Good job.
And Hickman was solid as well. Feel like he’d been down a little lately, and he was able to achieve some redemption yesterday. Good for him.
Let’s go, Cats. Beat Dayton!

One more thing. Aziz played hard today. One forgets him as he didn't have a lot of stats, but he controlled things. He was a major factor. He took out X'splayers so his buddies could get the rebounds at times. Good job.

What a great win for our city and team. They really needed to get this monkey off their backs to be able to look forward to the Big XII season. I have to admit when the Bearcats were down 7-8 points with 6ish minutes to go I thought the Cats were done for. Those few moments were very frustrating for me. I reflected back on all the Bengals, Reds, FCC, and Bearcat failures over my life, and was chalking this game up in that category, but I am over the moon happy for Wes Miller and players with the heart and fight they showed to pull it off. Will need the same effort against Dayton on Friday night. I believe the Flyers are a better team than Villanova and Xavier. The Flyers will love nothing more than defeating Cincinnati for second straight season. The Flyers just beat Marquette last night. Lets enjoy the Xavier win for a few more days, and be ready to cheer the Cats on to victory over Dayton Friday night!

UC 30 in NET. X drops two spots to 77 so for the time being this is a quad 3 home win.
23 on KenPom.

Thanks.
I started an analytics thread last year, explaining BPM and net points in this post: https://vb.bearcatnews.com/forum/bas...257#post415257
basketball-reference has a good glossary: https://www.basketball-reference.com.../glossary.html

Aziz led in offensive BPM, limiting himself to 4 successful dunks and adding 3 offensive boards and an assist with no turnovers. Day Day and Dan had solid defensive games.
Jizzle was by far the worst player on the court with negative 8.9 net points in only 25 minutes. 0 for 11 from the field, and 8 of those were from midrange. He also turned it over 3 times and was our only regular with a negative defensive BPM.
Luckily our interior defense was very good, a welcome sight after Villanova. We held Xavier to 50% at the rim, and contested everything except fast breaks and broken plays off of loose balls. And we only allowed them to rebound 27% of their misses. Great job controlling the paint. We held them to just 0.93 points per possession.
Mitchells FT shot looks fixable to me. He brings the the ball all the way behind his head. That's way too much motion for a free throw. I think if they can get him to practice a short, repeatable stroke he might be able to convert at least 60%.
