It's officially Xavier week. Before you check your eyes, yes it's only on ESPN+. If you're trying to watch this one in a bar, you better check with them about the streaming stuff.
X is 7-2 coming in. They do have one more game before the shootout vs. Morgan State on 12/10 at 7:00 on CBSSN. The losses were to Michigan on a neutral court and TCU in Ft. Worth. The game in between was a squeaker of a buy game against SC State. Erik Martin's crew played with them the whole game and X won on a late 3.
Zach Freemantle and Jerome Hunter are healthy again. Keeping Freemantle off the boards will be crucial as he's the leading rebounder by far. Ryan Conwell is averaging 16.6 points per game followed by Freemantle and McKnight. No one else on the team averages in double figures. Unless I'm missing something they've got 17 on the bench and have only played 11 guys so far this year and two of those appear to walk ons. There's not a whole lot of height on roster outside of John Hugley IV (remember him?), at 6'11. Hugley doesn't start but could give Bandaogo some trouble if he gets extended minutes as he's a load at 270 lbs. I think the key match-up is likely to be Dailyn Swain vs. whoever he guards (Simas?). Swain is listed as a guard but he's 6'8.
There are three guys on X's roster that we also recruited in Hugley, Swain and Trey Green.
The Bearcats cannot get off to a slow start like the last two games if we're going to win this one. They may not recover, as we've seen in recent Shootouts, and it takes the crowd out of the game.

Wondered that myself. Could KMart been talkingOriginally posted by bearcatlifer View PostIf L'm not mistaken he also got called for a foul when he hit the floor hard. Tough luck for him. Why in the world would he glare at and mouth off to Kenyon Martin?
to Freemantle, lol ?
Curious as to how much “talking” goes on
between former players/celebrities that sit floor
level & current players.

I understand - I was joking. Great point though --Originally posted by sedz View PostI meant the flare screen might be a thing this year. For some reason certain sets and actions suddenly become very popular for a year or two.

no brick shots have been in vogue for years. The Cats lucked out and I sure don't want to depend on that.

XU @ UConn right now (7:00) on FS1. Unfortunately, we need for the Eggmen to win some games. They're borderline Q2/Q3.

I'm not buying the fouling bit. Doesn't look like anyone was trying to foul. I think we just got caught out there. Earlier, they ran a down screen to get Conwell (their best three point shooter) a look from the top with 1:45 on the clock. He hit another with 16 seconds left. On the last play they set up the same action. Mitchell was ready to pick up Conwell coming off the down screen and Skillings was clearly glued to him. But instead Conwell set a flare screen so we had two players on a guy without the ball. In the end both teams probably got what they focused on in the huddle. We took away their best shooter. They got us to bite on a decoy and got a wide open shot from the same guy who hit a three at the halftime buzzer. Good bit of coaching from both sides really. I would have been furious if Conwell was able to get off a shot there. He's hitting 45% this year and made over 100 threes at 40% last year.Originally posted by RCL46 View PostIn the post game, CWM said the staff told the players to foul before X took a shot. X made two passes and the staff was yelling to foul but Freemantle took the shot as #7 set a pick to block 2 UC defenders. A win is a win. Now BEAT Dayton!
To switch roles, would we rather have Simas taking a tough catch and shoot three or Jizzle taking an open one? I'd prefer Simas. Sean Miller to decided to use their Simas as a decoy and we fell for it but it didn't work out for them. Just basketball.

Maybe it was bad defense. However, out of all the people who could have taken that last three, Fremantle is the ONE guy the UC coaches perhaps could live with taking that shot. Freemantle entered the UC game shooting only 28% from three. So, the right guy took that last shot. In fact, Freemantle was 1-5 from three for the game (20%).Originally posted by London 'Cat View Post
It was bad defense. I imagine the coaches caught it while reviewing the game. Hopefully they emphasize that poor defense so it won't happen going forward.

An expected reply from "Last Word Leo" and, yes, I watched the game so I DO know how serious it was, that is basketball.

I got your point but while saying bad defense, I don't think you realized how serious it was. It could have lost the game. Plus, I don't put karma on a player. It is skill or lack of skill.
