Before the season I wasn't too worried about this game. Now I am. (Full disclosure time: I am a lifetime UD fan. Second favorite team after UC. I get to see them a lot in person thanks to family connections.) This UD team has shown the ability to gut games out even when shots aren't falling. They play tough man-to-man mostly, but can also play a pretty decent 1-3-1 zone. And for those who haven't seen UD (I've seen almost all of their games either live or on TV), the falloff I expected from last year year hasn't seemed to materialize. Anthony Grant is a good coach. He'll have the Flyers ready Friday night. The Bearcats need to be the more physical, aggressive team. I believe it's really that simple. Play tough defense, get the ball to the hoop, and rebound at both ends of the court.

Oh - and those UC fans who are at Heritage Bank Center? You better be loud and proud because UD travels exceedingly well. Like last year, I imagine it will sound like a UD home game!
Exactly! That's what I was saying.

The Runnin' Rebels hung with the Flyers throughout the second half and took a 4-point lead late. UD rallied to go back up by one at 0:08. UNLV got off a shot at the horn, but UD hung on, 66-65.
UD eked by what appears to be a not-so-great UNLV squad.

The result? Dayton just dropped from 23 to 35 in the NET overnight. And they are at 31 in Ken Pom (26 when i checked on Monday).

Could be a case of looking forward to Friday's game with UC & a hangover from the Marquete game last week. I believe it will be a very tough game for both.

I think playing UNLV will help Dayton last night. I'm worried about UC going a full week after that tough X Game. Definetly going to be a hangover for UC, I'll be surprised if they come out sharp.

Bulletin board was probably the wrong phrase to use. I probably should have gone with "Challenge to the UC fan base ". It's ludicrous that they had more fans travel downtown than we did even if the building is rundown and the tickets are overpriced.

I also don't think they should continue this series at Heritage if the contract expires after this year. I'd like to keep the game but play it home and home next time.

Cincinnati continues to need a new indoor arena. How's that going anyway? I haven't seen anything in a while in the news.

This is the first match-up between UC and UD where both teams were ranked, since 2003 per GoBearcats. Jason Maxiell was your leading scorer that day.

I went to the game last year (drove down from Columbus)... they definitely had more fans.. and their fans are actually really annoying and kind of rude. The worst thing though was their pep band... they played non-stop and this kid with a woodblock/cowbell thing was whacking that thing so loud constantly it was hurting my ears...

There is a commission to study the feasibility of a new arena. I don’t think the city or county will fund it because there is no primary tenant for such a facility. That’s my recollection, though I live closer to Columbus than Cincinnati.

Here's an article from last month that lays out where this stands, what it would coat & what it would accomplish:
