i'd be ok if they can just control tonight's game -get a lead, and hold it. Saturday, i'm hoping that they can / will COMPETE - play hard, keep it close, and, maybe, have a chance late
You take a win however it may come. But for this team to have a shot to make waves in February and get back on the bubble, they truly need to have turned a corner and be playing at a high level (which means they should hopefully easily beat Utah) + the way things are set up now, you have to try to win big. Metrics/computer numbers will benefit from big wins. It's why you often see teams playing starters at the end of the game instead of emptying the bench.
Again, I'll take a 1 point win if it comes to it. But why not win comfortably and keep the momentum up and confidence high following tonight's game?
The team has never had a winning streak of 3 games in BigXII conference play. They need to win tonight and win convincingly. It will not only help build momentum it will also help with confidence in the coaches and each other.
I'm a little concerned that our two victories are mostly the result of hot outside shooting. That's not sustainable. Day Day isn't going to make 85% from midrange every game and Jizzle isn't going to shoot 75% from three. If those guys continue to have a green light the pendulum can swing back hard the other way. We still need to focus on getting to the rim, hitting the offensive glass, and forcing turnovers.
