The number of minutes Lukosius gets is an enduring mystery to me. He is not quick enough/not enough effort to be a passable defender, he makes no attempt to rebound at his size, he just drifts around the outside on offense looking for heat check 3s, he isn't able to get himself open and we don't have a good enough offense to get him good looks. Every minute he is in, Reed or Mitchell have to try to defend 2 players and are therefore less effective on the offensive end. He gives up far more on defense and with lazy passes and lackadaisical effort on the boards for the tiny amount of shot-making he is contributing. it's maddening to watch.

Even though the difference was down to 5 in the 2nd half ISU was never in danger of losing this game. They are stronger and play smarter than the Cats. There's a lot to fix going into next year and I fully expect there to be some defections from the current squad and I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

I am with you on that one. UC's wings have been punished all season on defense because they just do not have the size to play in the paint. For the record, Iowa State bigs go 6'11" 274, 6'9" 240, and 6'10" 260. UC's front line goes 7'0" 235 and 6'8" 210. Reed weighs 220, Simas 225, Betsey 225, Page is actually the second biggest player on the team at 6'11" 240, and McKinley weights about 245.Originally posted by D.A.H. View Postdan hoard had the best stat, pre game - i'm paraphrasing, but it was along the lines of "240, 260 and 270" - the weights of ISU's bigs. you can talk all the hocus pocus you want. bottom line, the 'cats just don't have the size to compete at this level.
Not sure why Page did not see the floor today. Aziz needed some inside help today. Mitchell and Simas were no match for Jackson 274 and Jefferson 240.
UC cannot win with these smallest rosters in the BIG XII. This year proves it. Other teams can win with the smallish rosters (Texas Tech and Arizona), because they have the coaching. UC does not.Last edited by leeraymond; 03-12-2025, 03:02 PM.

Also it is hard to win when Mitchell gives up 30 to 64 pounds and Aziz gives up 25 to 39 pounds. Those guys could not stop Iowa State's inside game. Not big enough. Page is actually UC's second biggest player at 240. However, he did not play.Originally posted by BearKatz View PostCan't beat Iowa St when Mitchell and Bandaogo each chip in 4 total points.

late in the game, dan hoard was talking about the crown tourny, and the time off - terry nelson made a crack that, with the portal, he hoped that UC would be able to field a team. I agree with others on here - this offseason could be really wild.Originally posted by leeraymond View Post

maybe two weeks ago, chad brendel filled in on 1530 - he was talking about how UC and XU had a similar amount of NIL to use on the basketball team - XU chose one way to build its roster, and UC wanted to emphasize the wings - they also let Lahkin and Reynolds go , who at least gave you something of an inside game. i don't have the mumbo jumbo crap on it, but maybe wes will figure out that you need some bulk in this league.
