NCAA Tournament and Bracket

I was thinking the same thing. I never gauge the strength of a conference just based on the non-conference wins. I look at what conferences have the most teams remaining after the first round of the NCAA's and the Sweet 16. Here is a Power Conference break-down of the win percentage of the schools; the percentage of teams still left after the first-round games. Here is the ranking: BIG 10: 100%; BIG XII: 85.7%; BIG EAST: 60%; SEC: 57%; and the ACC: 25%.Last edited by leeraymond; 03-24-2025, 01:14 PM.Comment

After all the hype about the SEC, they haven't backed that up. The top of the conference is likely the best but after 2-3 teams there isn't much substance to it, IMO. The BigXII did surprisingly well but we'll see how many qualify for the round of 16. It has been a great tournament to watch.

With the sole exception of New Mexico beating Marquette, bubble teams largely performed poorly in the first round - further emphasizing how weak the bubble was this season.Comment

I am so different anymore. I used to watch just about every game. I stopped that years ago. Since the Cats are not in the tourney, I don't watch it. Sadly, this season has been such a disappointment I am niot thrilled for the crown unless to see a new lineup. Hope springs eternal though and I hope to be enthused for next season.Comment

I'd rather see two teams from the top mid major conferences. Maybe give the regular season champ one auto bid and then have the rest of the conference compete in a tournament for a second bid. I want to see UC Irvine, George Mason, UAB, and Bradley instead of these teams with 14 losses.

Too soon for a verdict on the conferences I think. The Big12 basically went as seeded. Top 6 seeds went 5-0 and the 7-9 seeds went 1-1. The SEC had a lot more teams seeded 8 or worse, so you wouldn't expect them to win at the same rate. They are 1-5 in those games but 7-1 on the top 6 seed lines. All of the BigTen bubble teams missed the field and they didn't have any teams below the 7 line, so their undefeated record isn't that surprising.

Arkansas pulled away from St. Johns. It was a game of runs plus Arkansas hit their free throws down the stretch. The Big East is dwindling.Comment

Texas A&M was up by 10 early in the second half. Then with about 4 minutes left, they were down by 9. They fought back to within 3 but Michigan made their free throws down the stretch to win easily. A theme here is free throws matter. Also, another SEC team falls.Comment

It looked like both BYU and Houston would walk away with it. Both teams made it a nail biter down the stretch but both won. I should also note that Houston was able to hang on by making their free throws in the final 30 seconds.Last edited by bearcatbret; 03-22-2025, 10:15 PM.Comment
