While it's increasingly obvious that this is the end of the road here for CWM, I doubt that any decision is announced until after the Bearcats' final game. There's too much chance that players would announce their intentions to transfer (given eligibility remaining). UC still has to put a team on the floor.Originally posted by SKell82155 View PostFigured this was the most appropriate thread- Lance McAllister tonight basically reiterated what I’m seeing on this forum.
CWM post game reaction telltaling his unreadiness for this level of coaching. Said he seemed ready to crack & called for his buyout now, for his own health & the good of the program.
Also mentioned Jerrod Calhoun as a person to keep an eye on.
As to when John Cunningham will make it official depends upon whether he knows that the current nearly $10M buyout is secured first. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to have to wait for that number to drop to roughly $4.5M on 4/1/26. He probably has feelers out to coaches' agents now, but that must be done very discretely. The earlier he can get someone on board, the better.

If Calhoun turns out to be the pick, and if he can coach in the B12 conference, and can recruit, he fits the mold previously discussed. He's won at every stop, at the DII level, but what I did notice is he has ties to UC. On paper he looks attractive, but only time will tell.

One more observation. When Huggs is making those positive statements , look at terry's facial reaction. priceless. Here they are talking about how Huggs could not tolerate anything but hard work leading to good basketball, and now he is tolerating wretched BB. Terry and Cory know Huggs better than that. Look at Terry's face.

could you imagine the outcry from the fans if Huggs threw him under the bus. How would the remainder of the season be. What if CWM is retained. Huggs loves UC.Originally posted by BearKatz View Post
As others said, Coach Huggins making those comments on social media was being politically correct. I can't see him throwing a current UC Coach under the bus. I have a feeling it would be a totally different story if you were having a one on one with Huggs. I think he would give a different opinion on the current state of UC Basketball.

Yes. Williams always seemed to have a wealth of talent but I never thought of him as a great tactical genius. In the same vein I have felt for some time that Miller is a much better recruiter than developement or use of the talent.Originally posted by London 'Cat View PostWilliams was a HOF coach, no doubt. But, he always had the blue blood program to which to recruit. Would he have been the same coach at a school without that pedigree? We will never know but one has to wonder if it was his coaching or the fact that he had superior players to coach that brought him to all those wins. I think of all those years he was a Kansas and they choked in the NCAAs so many times.

You may be on to something as he was the HC at only 2 schools, but he won the NC at both. What he does seem to have passed on to CWM is the ability to recruit. Among his recruits were Paul Pierce at Kansas and he was the main recruiter for Michael Jordan at North Carolina.Originally posted by London 'Cat View PostWilliams was a HOF coach, no doubt. On another post we spoke of the connection between CWM and Roy Williams. On CWM's radio show he said Williams watches every UC game and they communicate before and after every game. That sounds close to me. It is almost like Williams is an assistant coach. Where is the help?

of course Huggs did make a back door stab. He said UC were horrid 3 point shooters. They had the length and skill to go underneath, but only Buck Harris was ready to engage. The others just stood around 10 feet from the basket. Wretched offensive style. Take what you want, but CWM is in charge of the play. I believe Huggs understands that.Originally posted by Gmann View Post
I saw Huggins make that comment on the Legends Podcast with Corey and Terry. What a Joke! Either he's not watched any games this year, he's being politically correct, or he's gone senile. I understand not being overly critical on Wes and blowing up the program but to say he's doing a terrific job kills his credability.

one thing that i remember about huggins, is that the only people he ever took shots at, outside of that one particular norwood U coach, were his players - for doing dumb ****, etc. i think he's always gone out of his way to not go say anything even semi-controversial about other coaches. he has to know the situation at UC, and I think that he's just not going to add fuel to the fire.Originally posted by Gmann View Post

I understand the reality doesn't match those kids' unrealistic expectations. Perhaps Shon just tried to hard instead of letting the game come to him. He is talented, and will mature with another season.
