The roman schools if you will. The only road shootout I was ever at was at the Gardens (showing my age with that fact) and some imbecile was throwing stuff at me because I had a UC sweatshirt on.

Never happen. UC is a stepping stone coaching job always has been always will be. We will out of necessity, search for an up and comer who wants to prove his worth who covets his dream job or the perennial top ranked schools. He will stay until one of these places come calling. And you don't see anyone knocking on Millers door do ya.

      • First of all, the Cats didn't lose because X is a bunch of jerks. Both teams played statistical wretched BB. BB is a bunch of individual plays in the context of the entire game. X rose when it needed to or perhaps UC allowed it. I, like UC have no answers. I just watched a very poor in fundamentals played game last night. What it was, was not D 1 BB, it was basically poor HS JV ball.. The city of Cincinnati once had very well coached teams. Now, due to the lack of fundamentals, the coaches are reduced to cheerleaders. Sadly, the Cats have a whiner and a dreamer to protect his ego during interviews. I watched the game, and it was a farce. Since I only watch the Cats, perhaps that is how the game is played today. What it is, is not the game that can be poetry in motion. Let the announcers talk it up as at least, they are doing what they are paid for. UC and X's entire teams are not doing what they are paid for. If I was just a BB fan and not a UC BB fan, there would be no reason to watch such nonsense and poorly executed game. Since I love the Cats, I watch and vent on this forum. I guess I should blame myself.

That's the difference between a loser and a winner. Between playing to win and playing to keep from losing. Winners make plays, puts the ball in the basket and will not be denied. Losers launch desperation shots, miss lay ups and free throws, give up on defense, try to do things all by themselves, commits stupid turnovers and finally just concede the game before time actually runs out and then whine about the outcome. All the things that could be corrected by the coaches and a good shot doctor.

Individual things change game to game, but that's the consistent reason why we continue to underperform. We crushed Xavier on the glass and only turned it over 9 times, but we went just 5 for 16 from midrange and only converted 50% at the rim and FT line.

Tre Carroll made 7 of 9 from midrange, outscoring our entire team by 4 from there on about half the number of shots. Xavier as a team went 13 of 19 from midrange. On average they make 4 of 14. Three point shooting was the big concern coming in and we held them to 21%. Just a frustrating way to lose.

Abaev was our best player with 4.8 net points. Shon went 4 of 7 from deep, scoring a very efficient 16 points on 10 shots with just one turnover. Celestine was second best, scoring 10 points on only 6 shots. Miller struggled shooting but made up for it with 17 rebounds and 6 assists with no turnovers. Day Day also had a solid game with 15 points on 13 shots.

Harris had the worst game with negative 3.8 net points, going 0 for 6 from the field. He is such a liability on offense. Kriisa was next worst, going 2 of 9 from three with 2 turnovers. McKinley also struggled. He had some big offensive rebounds but scored just two points and turned it over twice with a game worst negative 4.4 DBPM.
Ain't that a typical Miller coached game! We may / hope to have just one player out of five playing solid ball but the others in the rotation playing against him. They can't beat other teams from beating themselves. And the onus of all of that is on Miller.

            • Did anyone notice how emotional and fired up Carroll was after the game? It was like he just scored the winning touchdown in the super bowl. Why was this rivalry game so important to him? He even said that they are the best school in Cincinnati even though that was only his 10th game at Xavier. He is only going to play there one year. He played at FAU for three years and was born in Florida. He had no connection to this city or Xavier before this year. Why was he so immersed in this rivalry after only 10 games? It's because Xavier circle this game and love beating us. The administration, the fans and the students fire these kids up about this game. We seem just to show up and try not to lose and tell ourselves that this is just another game.

If it will never happen then we will never win in the Big 12. There are way too many good coaches in the Big 12 and they know how to manage today's crazy enviroment of constantly changing players. They also know how to exploit the weakenesses of a poor coach and his undisciplined players. I agree that when we were in the AAC and other lesser conferences the money was not there to pay a top coach. The money is there now and is being wasted on players that an incompetent coach can't win with. Miller was clearly the wrong "up and comer to bet on". The talent on the roster has gotten better every year and he still mis-manages the whole situation. It is criminal that he is 1-4 in the Crosstown Shootout and has never gotten us to the tournament in a league where finishing above .500 in conference likely gets you in. I know we are not a "blue blood" program but we deserve so much better than this.

                • Miller does not have control of this team. B Miller is1 of 12 from 3pt range, M Thiam is 1 of 11 from 3pt range & S. Harris 2 of 11 from 3 pt range. That's 11.8% 3 pt shooting for those 3 players. You don't have to be
Einstien to figure out that these 3 should not be jacking up 3 pointers. He should be telling these players to not jack up 3's & if he doesn't tell them, then the inmates are running the aslym. Horrible coaching!

CWM has patience as he is waiting for the expert coaching from the Shot Dr. to take effect. It's coming - It's coming

That's always been the problem with Miller. He has no control of the situation or the program. I think that's why certain players like him. You can do what you want with no fear of consequence if it adversely affects the team. You never get yanked for stupid, selfish, play and it's always an attitude of somehow things will just be better tomorrow. That's a formula for failure in any competitive sports environment.

That sums up why this game has to be on the Coach. Despite being on the road, and X popping 3 on their home court, in both halves your edge in size and depth took you back to the lead. Carroll's prior game against St. Francis, he put up 25 against them. Didn't anyone watch that tape? He was completely reliant on one move, throwing a head fake and popping a fade away turnaround push hook. He ate our lunch in the first half with that move. There ain't no way a good coach would have let that guy see the ball in the blocks one on one in the last ten minutes of the game. And really this isn't that much different than Eastern Michigan...move the ball around the horn until you get Carlos Hart isolated. And I, being old school, believe if you want to shut down Carroll, run some screens until he is matched up on Thiam and them make him play 1 on 1 in the post on D. every time you can.

And regarding Big 12...half the teams have NBA quality guards who are 6'4 or bigger. I don't see Cincinnati having that quality guard. If we have an edge, it should be working down low, but except for Miller every now and then, it is not happening. Avaev seems a step slow, Thiam gets pushed around too much.

Losing to Eastern Michigan and X is not a sign of a team that will be in the top six in the Big 12 and going to the dance.

Gmann I like your passion and enthusiasm but not only do you have to have the money to attract a big name coach, that coach has to want to come here. And although we may or may not have the money to pay a big name coach remains to be seen as we are squandering what money we do have to attract the top rated recruits. CWM is a tremendous recruiter it's just sad that he can't coach once they sign. We got extremely lucky to have obtained an up and comer in Huggins all those years ago and even luckier that he didn't have aspersions of going somewhere else. He saw something on accomplishing here what nobody else thought possible. And he would probably still be here if he wasn't his own worse enemy. Your right in that there are a few who are managing there rosters in this era of NIL and transfer portal, but there are also many who chose to get out of coaching because they where this was headed. And I agree that Miller is in over his head in this job and I hope I'm wrong in UC obtaining a big name coach in both football and bball but in my lifetime UC has always been a means to get where a coach hopes to ultimately get to. And being in the Big 12 could change that eventually but progressive additions in our rich but brief history going forward and money is the only thing that will attract a name coach. But consistently being with the basement dwellers of the conference will not attract anyone. But then again maybe I'm just very disappointed in the entire UC athletic dept. right now.

                          • Apparently, Wes saw something last night that the rest of us did not. I still say that UC should put into the coaches contract that they must be at least 500 against x or there is reason for dismissal.

                              • Miller is a snake oil salesman. Anybody that believes that he saw something last night that he hasn't seen numerous times before is buying his propaganda. It's crazy to me that he keeps saying we are going to be a good team. The season is not going to wait for that to happen, Wes. Better get busy!
