Here is what I saw -- Dayday was hitting from screens. Sampson took them away as the guys were fighting through them and also not being fooled. He also knew that JJ didn't show up and so 5 v 4. It is sad that jj's father got more mentions than JJ had assists. Take that folks for what it is worth. Rufus it is really sad seeing the endings which we have seen so many times. It helped UH that our guys got less intense setting the screens as some were watching or confused to what was being run.

I saw a replay of the Houston game on FS 1 (FOX Sports) early Sunday morning (1:00 am ET). UC did not play that bad of a game. However, Houston increased their level of intensity in the second half. There were 3 things that made the difference in the 2nd half:
1) both Flemings and Uzan were more aggressive on offense (Uzan hit for 14 in the 2nd half). UC made no defensive adjustments
2) UC did not keep Tugler off of the boards. He had 3 offensive rebounds that probably won the game. One offensive rebound lead to a kick-out pass to Uzan where he hit an open 3 which broke a tie. The other 2 offensive rebounds lead to dunks that put the game out of reach. Those 3 offensive rebounds by Tugler lead to 7 points which was the difference in the game
3) late game turnovers by UC doomed them to another let-down loss.

We all knew that there was a small chance that UC was going to win the Houston game. To me, a better predictor of where UC is right now and its fortunes in the BIG XII is how well it does against West Virginia on Tuesday night. The WV game is another nationally televised game against a Power 4 school.
UC is 0-5 on national TV this season. It is 0-5 against Power 4 and Big East schools. UC has lost 4 of its last 6 and has lost 6 of its last 10. However, UC has won 4 of its last 5 halves of basketball since the new starting lineup. I believe there are many potential wins in the BIG XII for UC if it continues to play the way it has been playing the last 5 halves.
It took the #8 team in the country, with all of its NBA prospects, everything that it had to beat UC on Saturday.Last edited by leeraymond372@gmail.com; 01-05-2026, 01:13 AM.

Remember, the same people who want Miller gone are the same ones who wanted Cronin gone... and they got their wish.Originally posted by BearcatJon View Postit is very depressing to see what this program has become since Cronin left. We lose every game to tough opponents. We usually have some sort of lead in these games and squander it. Only thing we can hope for is that a new coach will change this. Please bring in a new coach ASAP.

I sure do applaud your optimism LR but I can't find anything that WM is doing to correct the problems that have plagued him since he started. He don't make adjustments, is stiff-necked and too rigid in sticking to a game plan that late in games begins to fail, he can't motivate these guys to play hard let alone play a full two halves of bball. They give in / give up way too easy. If money and playing time on national television don't get your juices flowing just what are you playing the game for, and keeps rotating guys in that can't play at this level only because of their NIL income. Why don't other coaches have these problems. We all brag about WM bringing in highly touted recruits but why can't he get recruits who can come in and play / produce now, instead of working with them for a season and then they hit the portal? I'm sorry for being so negative but I see no light at the end of this tunnel. Miller keeps recruiting players that are being praised for their scoring / or ball skills, he needs to recruit players who have been taught how to play proper bball. If I get put in and throw up ten shots I may or may not make one also. On a side note I did notice on the box score that Jalen Hayes got into the game in the first half but not the second half. Wasn't he supposed be some muscle under the boards for us? Ok! That's my rant for the Houston debacle.Originally posted by leeraymond372@gmail.com View PostWe all knew that there was a small chance that UC was going to win the Houston game. I would add one other thing.....5 years of never seeing a guy get better.Originally posted by BearKatz View Post
The team did play there butts off. But a fan can only take so much disappointment from a Wes Miller Team!
5yrs of being out coached, lack of effort, low BB IQ wears on a Diehard Fan after a while. The team played well, and then fell apart in the last 4mins.
Houston had the same depth we had, so I can't use running out of gas as an excuse. As one member said, if this was early in the year I would be encouraged.
I think this will be his final year as Bearcat Coach. I also wonder what lingering affect this game will have on the team going forward.
Skillings was what he was the whole time here. I see the same thing in Shon Abeav.
Our big men don't get better playing in the post
Lahkin actually got worse his last year.
To me, Wes is teaching them what? To run an offense? It doesn't seem like it. I give you that they do play D hard. But how about fundamental basketball? footwork? post play? point guard play? I feel like nobody is trying to teach these kids by pointing out what they are doing wrong, and working with them on improving it. And....the lousy free throw shooting seems to be a part of that.
