Assistant coach Luke Murray (Bill’s son) seems to be a candidate as well. Tough thing would be UConn making a deep run.

Listened to Terry on with McAlister, he seems to think keeping Corey Evans may help us retain some of the current roster. May, he still expected mass exodus.

It won't be Josh Schertz. He signed an extension today with SLU. It's not going to be Rick Pitino: requires a huge contract and a large baggage car. It's not going to be Bruce Pearl. He retired because he got sick and tired of dealing with the portal issues.

I seriously doubt that Luke Murray is a top candidate. John Cunningham has made several coaching hires across different sports. All have been sitting head coaches. I hope the name Travis Steele never sees the light of day. Yes, the Redhawks won a ton of games - by trying to outscore subpar opponents who were facing an indifferent defense in every game.

I'm with swilsonsp4. It's a big fat no to Travis Steele. Miami can have him.

I thought you were messing with us. But they are in fact half-brothers. I learned something today.

Totally agree. Any coach who coached at X is no mas.

While announced, they agreed that the firing/termination/buyout will occur after 4/1. UC informed Wes that this will occur ahead of 4/1 so he can prepare for his future and so can UC. Wes was made aware that his time was running short through out the season so legally, UC has no risk if Wes wanted to challenge.

It’ll be interesting to see how the new hire is handled. If Cunningham is the face and voice during the campaign, much like when hiring Satterfield, it would indicate the university is trusting him to find the replacement. If this happens under shield with little public info/statements from Cunningham, that would suggest the university is running the search and Cunningham will be pushed out the door shortly. Hard to hire a proven winner or an up and coming coach with no AD and an athletic department still finding its footing in the Big 12. Keeping JC in place today might be for optics only. At least I hope, as I want JC hanging off the back of a garbage truck after his performance at UC.

I think Evans put together a very talented roster for Miller. He just couldn't coach them. I'd like to see Evans stay and help the new coach assemble the new roster. The assistants under Wes can all go. I never saw anything in them that made them worth retaining.

for what its worth, I happened to watch a couple interviews with Calhoun (YT) and a really good newspaper article. Emphasized is how calm and collected Calhoun gets when pressure situations arise. From the Cleveland area, with ties to many in the NBA. Seems like a really good fit.

As far as Evans is concerned, Terry Nelson said the same thing on McAlister’s show last night, even hinting he could help retain some of the current roster.

Looking at the list of potential names, it's hard to imagine Calhoun being anything but the #1 option, with no one else very close. Seeing as Calhoun already turned down K-State, it's even possible the deal is already as good as done and we are just waiting for April 1 and/or USU's season to end for the announcement.

Chad mentioned Calhoun has a great mind for offense, but isn't very good at coaching defense, but recognizes it and hired an assistant coach to be the defensive coordinator. Wonder who Calhoun could target for the defensive coordinator role if he comes here.

On the list of things that will never happen, Wes would make a great defensive coordinator/Associate Head Coach . Wes not hiring an offensive coordinator may been a large part of his downfall.
