This seems to be the consensus. The only other option might be an assistant coach off one the Top schools. NIL has changed b-ball so much. Kentucky/Kansas have 20 Million Dollar rosters. Calhoun basically inherited Utah State program that was already winning 25 games a year. But maybe in the NIL era that is how it works...

The bottom line is Bob Huggins pulled a steady stream of NBA level players into Cincinnati over the years. Cronin was a step backwards. Wes Miller has been another step backwards.

The odds of getting another Huggins are few and far between. Houston seems to have him in Kelvin Sampson.

No matter who you hire in the Big 12 your not going to be outspending AZ. Kansas BYU and a few of the Texas schools. Being top 4-5 in that league year in year out is going to require a great coach, not a good one.

Catching up on everyone's favorites, or not so favorites. As London Cat said, Huggs is in his 70s, and even if he was in his early 60s, the school is not bringing him back.

Many have concerns with Calhoun's coaching style being close to Huggins. Well Great ! Look at what we've been forced to watch since Mick left, total dysfunction on the offensive end.

I would welcome back that brand of Hard Nose Basketball any day! I do not agree Mick was a step backwards. I think Huggins was a better recruiter, but Mick got the most out of his players.

I'd say Calhoun is probably the favorite.

Keep in mind that UC did rise in the Big East. Sure, it took a while to catch up to those teams after being in CUSA. After Mick got going, UC was competing for championships against HOF coaches. It can happen again in the Big 12.

The more I learn about him, the more I think Calhoun would be a good fit. His players seem to like/respect him, and he understands how to win. Plus he has a street named after him on campus already.

bob huggins got more out of players than any coach I've ever seen. he turned Fortson, Maxiell, Martin, Brannen into absolutely tremendous players. he may have been the best coach i've ever seen in terms of giving him any group of players and he would mold them into the best performing team he could. The guy took teams unranked in the preseason to #1 at some point in the year more than once. Nothing against Mick Cronin, but he just never got anywhere near the level of talent that Huggins brought here throughout his tenure. And that kind of recruiting is the only way you are getting near the upper third of the Big 12.

I agree Calhoun seems like the fit here.

100% agree Huggs is past his prime. My points were made in the effort identifying coaching differences/styles between Huggs & Wes, reasons behind successes and weaknesses within the coach position.

He reframed it in a positive way, giving the traveling students and fans much of the credit for their success. It was subtle, but telling.
I also believe that LDS money is still important out there, and Utah State AD has the below out there....hard to attract budgets alienating them in Utah...
Two people, who said they were on a controversial Zoom call discussing the head football coaching job at Utah State University, told 2News Sunday what they heard from President Noelle Cockett — a statement that led Aggies players to opt-out of playing their final game this season. I’m not throwing shade at Wes Miller.
He had a lot of things you want in a head coach — young, energetic, great recruiter, and he embraced the history of Cincinnati basketball.
And the talent he had on last two years there’s no reason they shouldn’t have made the NCAA tournament
                        But the most important thing?
He couldn’t coach at this level.
His tenure felt like an anchor holding the program down, and I was honestly worried the university would be OK with mediocrity.
                        Thankfully… they weren’t.
Now the ceiling for Bearcats basketball feels wide open again.
When Jerrod Calhoun ends up being the guy, I’m excited to see what he can do.
Until then, I’ll be rooting for Utah State to make a deep NCAA Tournament run.
                        Go Bearcats.

Um. . .yeah, that's what I said: Villanova.

I forgot to put on my cheaters when looking at the bracket. LOL Thanks for the correction!

                              Kentucky looking at Corey Evans?
Everyone knows Kentucky basketball needs a GM. A repeat of this year's roster construction simply cannot happen again. I don't care if they spend $2 million or

Calhoun has very few tournament appearances and zero tournament wins. This sounds familiar. I’d rather this be a broad visible search.
