Brett McMurphy is tweeting that NIU will join the Mountain West as a football only member. -

McMurphy said it was to be finalized at the next BOT meeting. This move will reignite the NIU rivalries of UNLV, Nevada, San Jose St to name a few. NIU spent a few years in the Big West back in the 90s. It appears to be a money grab only. Olympic sports may find a home in the Horizon or Summit.Comment

Realignment news today. Northern Illinois is moving their Olympic sports to the Horizon League, and Cal Baptist and Utah Valley are leaving the WAC for the Big West. The WAC may be done after this as Utah Tech and Southern Utah are rumored to be going to the Summit.Comment

This is the 4th time the WAC has been left for dead after significant departures in 1978, 1999, and 2012-13.
