BYU's QB Tanner Mangum was injured during their win against ECU. I did not see any information on whether he reentered the game or what his injury was or whether he is expected to play this week. BYU gave up 38 points to ECU.

Here's the box score of that game: http://espn.go.com/college-football/...meId=400764881

ECU's QB went 28/36 passing. I'd say BYU's Defense is suspect.

Here's the previous week's box score against UConn. : http://espn.go.com/college-football/...meId=400764874

The BYU offensive balance seems to be a about 2:1 pass. They will chuck it around using a lot of motion in their formations if you haven't seen them play.

Hope we can get a consistent running game going to eat some clock and keep the BYU offense off the field. If we get into a back and forth game with them I don't like our chances.

If, just if, we can win the turnover battle & have a running game, we can win this one. On the road is always tough to win, so my initial guess is
        BYU 34
        UC 28
        I hope I'm wrong.

BYU is simply tough. Our defense is young, raw, and talented! We have options 1 and 1A at QB. Their QB is nursing a hamstring injury. The key to the Bearcat victory this week is if TT can not let the Miami win go to the heads of our young players and get them to treat this game as their sole focus, no looking back on the past or future. I think TT is just the guy to help these kids focus this week in Provo.

          Bearcats - 28

          Cougars - 17

It's hard to believe this team will rely on defense with the talent at the skill positions on offense, but that is the key to this victory!!

Bains: UC Might Face BYU's 3rd String Quarterback Beau Hoge On Friday

Oft banged up but utterly unstoppable when he’s not senior signal caller Taysom Hill was lost for the season during BYU’s game against Nebraska in game one.Freshman quarterback/mortified punter Tanner Mangum stepped in...

(Tanner Mangum) was sidelined for most of the East Carolina game due to a sore hamstring. Remarkably Mangum was able to gut it out and lead the Cougars to victory but early indications suggest he too might be replaced by yet another freshman Beau Hoge (not making that up) this Friday.

Deseret News: Due to injuries, both BYU and Cincinnati have uncertainty at quarterback position

Just when freshman Tanner Mangum was becoming a fixture at quarterback for BYU after stepping in for an injured Taysom Hill, Mangum’s status for this weekend is uncertain.

Freshman Beau Hoge — making his college debut — replaced Mangum and the BYU offense sputtered in three consecutive three-and-outs. On Hoge's fourth series, he threw an interception.

Salt Lake: Cougs face short turnaround, questions about Mangum’s health

BYU was established Sunday as a seven-point favorite, which seems high if Mangum can't go. Hoge, who splits his practice time between the scout team and the second-team offense, looked totally unprepared against the Pirates.

Beau Hoge is a grad of Fort Thomas. P/ the article, UC was interested in him.

I like our qb uncertainty better than theirs. That said, biggest game of the year in my mind, and i think most of the veterans will agree. At this point, we likely get as much credibility in a season by beating Miami(the u) and BYU as we would a conference championship for which we face an uphill battle. That's what makes this a big game. Go into Utah on nat'l. tv and beat them and it's something national folks remember. This is a big opportunity on the road for distinguishing ourselves. Uconn and ecu couldnt' do it, bearcats can. Let's go boys!

KOCH: UC QB? 'Let the Best Man Win' says Tuberville

If you thought the question of who would start at quarterback for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats against BYU on Friday night would be settled by now after a bye week, think again. UC coach Tommy Tuberville said Monday on the American Athletic Conference coaches teleconference that the decision will go down to the wire. “Let the best man win,” Tuberville said.

Wow! Tommy is singing a different tune. Before the Miami game Tuberville said the position is Kiel's, whenever he is healthy enough to return. I have no problem with the competition but that original statement should not have been said if that was a possibility.

Not sure everyone knows this but Beau Hoge played at Highlands High School in NKY. Same school as Gino Guidugli.

KOCH: Boone Ready to Run Again

Boone, who has missed the last two games because of what he describes as “an ankle-foot” injury is healthy again and will be raring to go when the University of Cincinnati Bearcats play at BYU on Friday night. “To finally get back out on the field and do what I love to do, I’m ready to get back,” Boone said Tuesday. “To be hurt and not able to do it, it sucks man. Being in that training room is horrible.”

bains: Tommy Tuberville Previews BYU - video

Tuberville confirms that Gunner Kiel and Hayden Moore will battle it out this week to determine who starts on Friday. The players will know at the beginning of the week who will be QB1. This will be the trend throughout the season but I’ve got to figure if they are neck and neck, Kiel will get the nod.
