12 Team playoff coming in 2023?

I think everyone was so focused on 8 teams that no one considered that 12 might be the number? ($)

I’m just waiting for aO$U to exert its influence to vote to make the BigXII a G5 conference now that UC will be a member. Convince me otherwise.

The FBS commissioners and ND’s AD will meet in Dallas tomorrow to discuss any issue the 12 team CFP expansion per Heather Dinich at ESPN. I’m sure this will get interesting now that we have realignment and a conference alliance.

This is sorta conference realignment related, but this article mentions that each P5 conference gets 66 million annually from CFP. No mention if the G5 conferences get anything or how much. This thread seems to be the best place to ask: will conferences get paid differently with expansion to 12 teams? If top six ranked champions get in, then is it possible the CFP split could trickle down to AAC? I know it's not as much as the tv contracts, but another 4-5 million per year could do small wonders at places like Cincy, SMU, Liberty, UCF, App St and other G5 teams, just for the Playoff to exist and happen. I think I had already hear that NY6 bowl and CFP appearances give money to the conference, so more teams getting in from one conference is huge. If, and it is a big if at this point, the playoff expands to 12, I don't see NY6 games remaining in their old Bowl System format.

"That CFP money alone comes to $66 million per year for Power Five conferences. Semifinalists get $6 million. New Year's Six bowl appearances are worth $4 million per year."

Posted in the other thread, but this. 12 team playoff may not happen.

Should the 12 team CFP actually happen, I think the CFP will call out the Rose Bowl's bluff. Call it something different. If the Rose Bowl has a quarterfinal game, play it at 2 on Jan 1. If Rose Bowl has championship or semi-final, then keep the Rose Bowl JAn 1 at 2 with best Pac-12 and B!G team not in CFP. This is a win and extra money for Rose Bowl. Hopefully, they aren't so stubborn as to cut off their nose to spite their face. The CFP could move forward with remaining bowls and lock out the Rose Bowl, though that is less likely.

As to SEC expansion and 12-team playoff, I doubt the SEC could field more than 3 teams in CFP. At some point, losing multiple games to good teams drops you in CFP rankings. Most years SEC will get 3 teams in, likely 2-3 for B!G. I don't see the SEC getting more teams into a 12 team playoff because some of those teams will have to lose.

This may be put on the backburner thanks to Texas and OU. ($)

Don't you all love how Clemson's Head Coach "Dabo Swinney" is opposed to the 12-team playoff. https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrC...5X07w9kV59r.A-

I really feel that if the expansion happens, and with the NIL, and keeping Fick, UCs recruiting is going to continue to grow and eventually reach top 25 rankings because of the easier access to playoff (being able to stay the top of the G5), potential to make some marketing money in a city with a lot of marketing dollars, which in turn (over time) would allow UC to generate more media money, if not from the AAC, then for themselves directly.. Does anybody know if UC retains its own 3rd tier TV rights or is that too controlled by AAC?

That makes sense with ESPN also televising the CFP rating and all of the hype leading up to the event. It sure would be nice to let ESPN have the final 3 games and let other networks bid on the leadup games. Anything to get this sooner rather than later.
