Ehhh Fickell has like ten kids. I legitimately think Michigan State was the closest he came to leaving and that he’s here until OSU or ND opens. Struggling to think of another program in the Midwest he’d want to be at.
Also: USC’s administration is… not great. Bohn wanted to fire Helton after last season and the prez made him keep him. Prez is more Nancy Zimpher than Ono/Pinto. Fickell has the entire administration lined up behind him here.
I also think that Coach Fickell will stay here until the tosu position becomes open. He is Catholic and I suspect that he is semi conservative that way. He will not go to the west coast to raise his family. Also, he now has a greater chance at the road to the CFP.
A program will come calling that is set up to win, and win fairly quickly. When it happens, we will be sad and happy for Luke. That program will not be USC.
Red and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.
USC has had a huge tendency to hire USC guys. If Bohn tries to go outside the USC family for a hire he will get signififcant pushback from the boosters and donors there.

On the other hand, those same boosters/donors, and administrators were wrong about Helton. I still don't think Luke would have interest, unless he gets Saban type of money, which USC has.

Fickell can handle the job, but would he want the flash? Fickell has earned his spot, going 33-6 the past four years and leading the Bearcats to the Peach Bowl. Fickell took over a 4-8 program and led it all the way to the Big 12. Even with the AD being his old boss Bohn, who hired him at Cincinnati, it's a leap to think of Fickell coaching on the West Coast. Fickell has essentially never lived outside of Ohio and this would take him out of his Midwestern comfort zone and recruiting sweet spot. His buyout is $3.5 million.
We have to get used to Fickell being at the top of the list for every big-time job. How could he not be? There are plenty of potential opportunities in the Midwest; he'll wait for the right one. He got us into the Big 12 and it's a stronger league than the Pac 12.

When/If Coach Fickle accepts one of those offers, we will be sad, but understand. We will wish him well and thank him for a job done incredibly well. There's no such thing as a forever coach.

Rick Minter would have stayed forever, hopefully Fick is Ohio State or bust.... and Ryan Day gets his team performing better so they keep him
