Tulane tried their best to blow a 35-0 lead, but hung on, largely because of some shaky decisions by the Memphis HC. The Tigers drove inside the 10 very late. On 4th down, with no time-outs left, down 38-28, he chose to throw into the end zone instead of opting for the chip shot, followed by an on-sides try. The QB threw a fade into traffic & it was picked off.

UH took care of Navy, 38-20.

I have always been impressed with the ECU QB, Ahlers.... Reminds me of our prior QB, Brandon Kay.

Everything went right for ECU, and everything went wrong for UCF. If they played again today, UCF would probably win by 14.

Glad we play them at Nippert, as that would be a tough road game for us. Also glad we play Tulane at home.

Fun fact of the day: When Fickell first came on board, we tried to flip Ahlers late in the recruiting cycle after he committed to ECU. He didn't flip and we stuck with Desmond Ridder. Worked out ok for us.

ECU played at BYU tonight in Provo. The game went back and forth, with the Pirates booting a game-winning FG as time expired, 27-24. This was ECU's second of four straight games against the B12 newbies, after waxing UCF last week.

They've got to get that together for the BIg XII. I've been saying on and off for a while that UH reminds me of UC in the 80s/90s. It's a urban commuter school that can do better. Heck Renu Khator might do well to study Zimpher's moves. We don't give Nancy credit for much as sports fans but moving U College students to the branch campuses was a a huge part of where UC is now as a university

This is interesting regarding your thought on the move to branch campuses. Can you expand what you mean just a bit? Do you mean that U. College students are mostly commuters and so moving them out opened room for more on-campus students and thus a better college environment?

This probably belonged in a different thread but here we go. When I was in school, U College was basically a community college / vocational school on the main campus. The idea was that you could get an associates and then enroll in the main university to complete your 4 year degree if you so chose to and were admitted. Some of those U College majors were often pre-something. I had quite a few friends that were in pre-education and pre-engineering at the time.

One of the things that Zimpher put in motion was removing the U College students from the main campus. I'm not sure of the complete reasoning but it makes the metrics for the main campus look better in the US.News Rankings for sure because you've removed what could be viewed as the questionable academic students or students who didn't complete a 4 year degree from main campus numbers and offloaded them to the branch campus metrics. I think this move went a long way towards improving UC's academic reputation and in the present day we see a UC that is hard to get admitted into, as opposed to when I was school, where they let in just about anyone who academically qualified because of U College. It's not a knock on the students in U College at all. It's just a change in the way the system is structured and a lot of it is national reputation optics. It worked.

This weeks scoreboard is very interesting. Lots of good matchups. UCF at Memphis but if you want to get an idea of what our Tulane game might be like, watch them vs Tulsa before our game on Saturday morning. Tulane runs a ton of motion, much like UCF, against a Tulsa defense which also plays the 3-3-5 scheme.
