  • Bowl projections 2022

I’m starting to see midseason bowl projections come out.

Here’s the Athletic version ($). They are projecting UC to the Cotton Bowl against UCLA currently.

I’ll add more projections as I find them

Of course this is all based upon UC beat UCF in a couple of weeks. Loose there, and we will be playing N.C. State in the Belk Bowl.

I think the Bearcats will be loose in Orlando and that will help them win. The projections are assuming those teams win out. For our 'Cats, that will depend on QB play. I believe both QBs will be needed the rest of the season.

Since we are only 3 point favorites, and on upset alert, perhaps we should be focussed on SMU and stop worrying about UCF.

As fans we can look ahead and we understand there is folly in that because it can change quickly with upsets. I am confident that Coach Fickel, his staff, and the team are dialed in on SMU. Since our attention can be diverted, it's okay for fans to be less focused than the team. We get the best shot of very goood teams every week. The AAC is better than most pundits give credit. Thanks for the reminder, Go Bearcats, Beat SM-Who

Updated projections from the Athletic. They have us in the wonderful Birmingham Bowl against Liberty currently. ($) At least if we end up there, it's not at Legion field this year.

All we have to do is win out plus win the conference championship game. Piece of cake.

What does UCF's win against Tulane do for our chances?

For an NY6 game it causes us problems. We now have to win out in the regular season to get to the AAC Championship game. That game will be in Orlando unless UCF loses one. UCF has Navy at home and at USF left on the schedule. Navy might slow UCF down a bit but I don't think they'll lose that one.

I for one don’t want a NY6 bowl game. I would rather win a mid-level game, than get beat up against a team like LSU or Clemson.

I would like to see us in the Liberty Bowl, against a team like Florida State or Kansas State. The Liberty Bowl, 10 years ago, was absolutely great, and perhaps the best bowl game that I have been to.

I don't think you understand how bowl money works in this sport, Chris.

Still, getting beat 42- 12, in a big money bowl will be an embarrassment, and could ultimately cost the program more money than winning a decent bowl, and collecting very little money now, but having a nice win that everybody is happy about.

Nope, there’s nobody more loyal and generally excited about UC football than me, but I live in”Realville”. I’m still not over the disaster-ugly performance of last Friday evening, and I don’t want to see that kind of performance take on Clemson or LSU on January 1!

Let’s play in a decent midsized bowl, against competition that is pretty much close to where we are, and win. What’s so hard to understand about that?
