Still, getting beat 42- 12, in a big money bowl will be an embarrassment, and could ultimately cost the program more money than winning a decent bowl, and collecting very little money now, but having a nice win that everybody is happy about.

Chris we could lose your Mid level bowl game just as easily, then what have we accomplished.
I had hoped at this point we had outgrown that mentality and want to reach for the best we could get. With your approach, we might as well forfeit next season in the Big 12.
As Lobot said, bowl games are money games, not looking for easier wins. The difference between a NY6 game and the bowls your are mentioning is very significant. If we lose so be it. At least our resume reflects playing with the big boys which we can sell to recruits.

If I recall correctly Chris was against the last move up (Big East?) that we made, quite content to be a big fish in a small pond.

Richard, that would be correct. Chris advocated for moving down to the MAC in football instead of the Big East If I recall.

Win the next three games, stay ranked ahead of Coastal Carolina - Cotton Bowl.

Hey folks, I just remember the dark days of Dave Curry in back to back 4-7 seasons. I don’t want to see UC regress. I am excited about the Big 12, but I do believe the big 12 is a lot better than the old Big East.
I just want UC to win, and I hate going to bowl games and losing, and then having to deal with the long ride home…. I’m hoping that we get either the music city bowl, the outback bowl, or the liberty bowl.

The ugly days of UC football of the 80's & early 90's are history. We were an independent program back then, until C-USA came along. The facilities stunk. Nippert had been condemned. That situation isn't going to be resurrected anytime soon.

Let's enjoy an 8-2 team that has a chance to win the conference. Most of us looked forward to joining a P5 league, somewhat for the cash inflow, but also for the chance to take on strong opposition on a weekly basis.

In the history-based film "Chariots of Fire", British sprinter Harold Abrahams, after losing a 100-meter run, moped, "If I can't win, I won't run." His girlfriend, Sybill, replied, "If you don't run, you can't win." The Cats are headed to a bowl game somewhere. I prefer to strive to win on the highest level. If UC is fortunate enough to play in a NY6 bowl, but fail to keep it close, no one but UC fans will remember it. We'll take another whack at it next season, and the seasons after that.

Should we have refused to play Georgia in the 2020 Peach Bowl, just because we were afraid of embarrassment on the national stage (that never developed)? Or, last season, when the Tide controlled the Cotton Bowl from the outset? Perhaps we should have phoned the CFP committee in December to allow us off the hook. No thanks.

A program always wants to play on the biggest stage possible. Summer of 2021 we were at Kings Dominion outside Richmond, VA. I was wearing a Cincinnati Bearcats shirt, and numerous people congratulated me on making the Peach Bowl. Not one mentioned the score, but a few said great win. No one outside football fanatics and Bearcat diehards knows what truly happened, and in time most will forget.

Sorry Chris if we are ganging up on you but you clearly struck a nerve. Maybe Colerain would be happy playing in a second tier bowl game but not our Bearcats. Fick has taken us to another level and the only way to stay there is to play with the big boys and learn how to beat them.

Being competitive every year is an acceptable goal, i.e 7-8 wins, with occasional runs of CCG/CFP/NY6, and fewer runs of 3-4 wins. I doubt we will have multiple 10/11 win seasons, nor do I think we will be long time bottom dwellers. In those days when UC was independent, we simply were not a destination school, and had several destination schools on the schedule. Being in a P5 conference will have some growing pains. I am confident the administration is committed to putting our best foot forward to being competitive. If (and we all hope it's no time soon), but if/when Luke leaves, we will have same expectations for next coach/staff.

Please don't count the Bowl success on winning/losing. Everyone feels bad after a loss and floating on air after a win. However, getting to the best bowl is primary goal because it reflects on a more successful season, and likely has higher payouts.

So long as the criticism is "good natured", and not mean spirited, I am good w/ it. Some of us have been on this board for 15 years.

I think we all want success. Remember, everything in life is cyclical. Colerain went 10 years w/o losing a GMC game, and this year, finished the season 4-7.

The Athletic has UC vs. Coastal Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl... with all due respect to Coastal... I'd rather play in one of the Dec. 17 games in a better location versus a better brand name (not that I'd be traveling, so what's it to me?)

For those who have been around for a while, exacting some football revenge on FSU would be nice.

I’m obviously rooting for the Cotton Bowl or even the Frisco Bowl or Armed Forces Bowl so I can drive across town

Beating FSU would be nice. Seems like we got a few beat downs from them in football when we were in the Metro together for basketball in the 80s.
