  • Arizona State 10/19/24 Noon ESPN+

There's a good chance that we will go without a Nip at Night game this season. That is, unless the networks decide that late November is prime nighttime viewing, well after the warming sun has departed, to be replaced by horizontal sleet coming in out of the North.

Homecoming is a Kegs and Eggs event this year. I feel sorry for the parade participants because that is very early start for them. On the bright side, ASU will feel like they're playing at 9:00am in the morning.

Keys to the game IMO. Stack the box against Cam Skattebo. 22 rushes for 158 at 7.2 ypc and 2 TDs last Friday against a good Utah defense. His comp is probably Christian McCaffrey. QB Sam Leavitt can run as well but doesn't need to when Skattebo has a game like that. Skattebo is also the 2nd leading receiver on the team.

Second week in a row that UC will see a former teammate. Chamon Metayer is on the Sun Devils roster after a very brief stop in Colorado during the portal window. So far this season he's gotten the ball about half as often as he did for UC before bailing on us late last season.

Forky is 5-1 this season with most of the wins being somewhat close except for the season opener at Wyoming. They've only been on the road twice this season with a last minute victory at Texas State and a loss to Texas Tech.

I had to go to Winsipedia to figure out if we'd played them before. We're 2-0 vs. the Sun Devils dating back to 1954 and 1976 and haven't played them since. Both games were in Tempe.

When we beat them in 1976, they were pre-season ranked #1 in the country. Great win. I remember listening to it on the radio.

Arizona St. fans seem to think Nippert can't be that loud. Are we doing this again?

Every game. Don't worry, they'll learn.

                Press conference highlights:

Sorsby is practicing hand offs with his off hand but to a thumb problem he's had since the Tech game

                Dartanyan Tinsley practiced this week.

Aaron Turner and Chance Williams are considereing red shirting due to injuries.

Cam Roetherford sould be back this week after missing UCF.

                From ASU's presser:

Former Bearcat Justin Wodtly is questionable. I missed him in the ex teammate post earlier.

ASU is moving up it's practive team 30 minutes each day to account for the time difference.

                Etc:

Kenny Dillingham is the youngest coach in FBS at 34.

Cam Skattebo is 3rd in the country in all purpose yards.

Also, Cam Skattebo sounds like some rebel pilot from Star Wars but I digress.

Who knows with this team. They have somehow found ways to leave points off the board in several games. Two touchdowns against Miami lost, inside the redzone against TTech, etc.

ESPN is showing UC as a 6-point favorite. Opened around 3.5.

Here's hoping ASU haven't had all their coffees and are groggy from jet lag. Bearcats with a 7 pt. lead when it ends.

Kenny Dillingham announced today that starting QB Sam Leavitt is out for the Sun Devils. Jeff Sims will take his place.

Sims started at GA Tech. In his three years with the Wreck, he threw for 4,464 yards, with 30 TDs, but 23 INTs. He transferred to NE, but played poorly (1 TD, 6 INTs, 4 fumbles lost) while throwing only 49 times. Sims, though, is a good athlete who can run.

Sims has had very limited action this year, hitting 1 of 2 passes for 13 yards, and rushing 4 times for 17 yards. I imagine we're going to get a boatload of Cam Skattebo on Saturday.

I don't know when the Vegas line jumped to UC (-6), but there's a good chance that Leavitt's rib injury last week had a lot to do with it.

And here I was wondering why Vegas flinched so bad. That would do it. Stack the box and make him throw it.
