A good hint. Hopefully, he means it.Coach Kelly's most recent tweet.....
Pitt is tough enough to prepare for but it will be nice given the current weather that we will have an indoor bubble this time next year.

I think it's a moot point as I don't believe that ND would allow Kelly to continue coaching at UC after accepting the ND job and, moreover, I don't think that UC wants Kelly recruiting for ND while at the same time prepping UC for a bowl.I absolutely want him to coach the bowl game, especially if it is the Sugar Bowl or, football gods willing, the national title game. We would have a very small chance to win either of those games without him in my opinion. If he leaves, he leaves, but that doesn't change the fact that we could still win our first BCS game ever. Holding a grudge and preventing that makes no sense to me. Get angry after January if you want to (although I would not be angry at him for leaving personally).
Most likely scenario, should Kelly leave, would be similar to when rich rod left WVU. Kelly would take off but leave assistants behind temporarily to coach the team up to the bowl game. When the new coach was hired, the situation would be reevaluated at that point, assuming the game had not yet been played.Comment

Nothing will happen until Sunday night. What if the cards fall UC's way and they are in the NC Game and BK has a very attractive offer from ND on the table as well? Is he able to walk away from the opportunity to coach his team in the NC Game to go to his dream job?
BK is a great choice for ND and they can throw more money at him than UC can ever dream of. If he is to stay it will be because of other reasons such as legacy and quality of life. It won't be because of money.
Man I hope somebody is figuring out how to hold onto Mike Thomas!Comment

It's pretty funny -- this weekend has the potential to be the best weekend in the history of UC Football (SAT: Beat Pitt, Texas Loses, SUN: BCS rankings come out with CIN #2) or the worst weekend in the history of UC Football (SAT: Lose to Pitt, SUN: Brian Kelly announced as Notre Dame head coach).
Pretty rare that both situations are so readily in-play.#41
You can give it a patriotic name, but it still sucks.Comment

Agreed 41. This is an unprecedented situation. You have to wonder, what if we had a better support system behind the football team before Kelly's arrival (stronger fanbase) and a slightly bigger stadium already? Would this still be an issue? Maybe, but I think it shows us that with our without Kelly, we need to keep supporting this program and moving it forward to be continually successful. Most everyone knows this. Regardless, we are enjoying a season that none of us could have seen and I won't let the possible future affect my pure enjoyment of this magical season.Comment

Brian Kelly has stated numerous times he has not been contacted by ND.
From Bleacher Report:
Cincinnati's Brian Kelly was ruled out of the coaching search because ND felt a defensive coach was more necessary after the Irish defense gave up an average of 26 points per game this year. The source claimed Kelly was never contacted.Comment

I hope he stays too -- but it's just another one of those Cincinnati Things™, where anything good just gets smashed in your face. Be it Carson Palmer's knee in the playoffs, Kenyon Martin's leg right before the tourney or Ken Griffey Jr's lower body right after signing his contract here -- Kelly's departure (if it happens) after bringing the team to within a breath or two of the national championship game will be yet another thing to talk about down the line that you just have to laugh about.#41

FWIW, the guy who wrote at irish central that BK to ND was a done deal had previously written an article that BK should be chosen over stoops. he made arguments (not very good ones) but it's clear that BK being Irish is the reason Mcstereotypical name wants him. could be a healthy helping of wishful thinking.Comment

this from espn
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick says there are far more people being mentioned for the school's head coaching job than there are candidates.
Swarbrick would not disclose how many people he has contacted about the job. He began reaching out to candidates Tuesday, and said he is consulting with a search firm.
He also said he's contacted people who know the candidates he has identified. Among them are former coaches and a former athletic director of "national prominence."
Swarbrick spent part of Wednesday meeting with assistant coaches to hear their ambitions and try to help them. He also met with some players to get their perspective on the coaching staff.
Swarbrick hopes to have a decision Friday on whether Notre Dame (6-6) will go to a bowl.
that says to me that any reports of a deal with ND being done with ANYONE are premature.Comment

Here's my take on the Kelly to ND discussion. As someone has pointed out, Kelly could easily end the speculation by coming out and in clear terms stating he's not interested in ND. Instead of "we're focused on Pitt" and "I am staying, my family loves Cincinnati", both of which can easily be reversed by "I just couldn't turn down an opportunity to coach ND". Kelly could just say "I appreciate all the speculation. Its good to be wanted. I am not interested in taking the ND job at this time, even if it is offered to me. Period". This isn't politically correct, and it probably isn't in coach Kelly's best interest, but if he was truly committed to UC, he'd just say it that way and be done.
Which brings me to the 2nd point. This decision, as most things of this nature, is all about money. If someone offered you 1.5x-6x your current salary, for 5+ years, guaranteed, would you change jobs? Even if you loved your environment? Even if your family was truly happy there? I can certainly see some rare exceptions, but most of us would do it. Kelly's no different - this is why you're not seeing a flat out "NOT GOING TO ND" denial. We can talk about the love for the city and program competitiveness and academic standards and NC chances and I do believe they play a role in the decision. But its all truly secondary to money. That's reality, and there's nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't begrudge coach Kelly the opportunity to better his well-being, as much as I would want him to stay in Cincinnati for years to come.
If he gets offered the ND role, chances are extremely high he's gone. Lets hope he doesn't get offered, and he continues to build the program up to such a level that there are fewer and fewer jobs out there that are more attractive. That's really the only way to coach stability anymore, and even that has some exceptions.Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
