    Coach Kelly Situation

This was touched on a little bit at the end of the Ill Game Thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread.

For those of you at the game, Bob Griese was talking about how he had a conversation w/Kelly before the game and that a decision would be made within 7-10 days. When confronted with this at the end of the game, Kelly seemed annoyed at the question and said that he feels in 7-10 days the speculation will die down and he said we all know the source of where it needs to cool.

I personally want to believe what he has said about staying here and coaching and becoming a legend at UC he means 100%. What does everyone else think?

I agree with your interpretation of Kelly's comments at the end of the game. My gut still says he's staying.

Also, from the start when Griese made the 7-10 day comment, I felt like he had inaccurately reported the context. It didn't seem like something Kelly would say.

I agree with your interpretation as well...

I think Kelly feels the ND job will be filled in 7-10 days and then people will stop bothering him about it. The fact that the job is there is "source of all this speculation" he was referring to.

Eh, with the local media, he talks about how great skyline and graters' is, with the national media, it's about how it's up to the university to keep him around.

That tells me he'd like to keep some doors open out there w/o pissing off the locals (there are comments in this thread that he'd never ever leave, so it must be working).

Dude could leave, dude might never leave. Regardless, I am going to enjoy the **** out of this Pitt game.

No way he stays. Cmon now, he has avoided the question time after time. ND gets better recruits, more money, bigger stage. The coach who turns ND around will be a LEGEND. UC better hope stoops gets offered the job first and accepts. If offered, no way he turns it down.

I prefer that to lying. He's being honest about it.

Just getting tired of negativities and speculations by media on BK. Obviously, media is not used to UC's new football program success and they still treat UC as the stepping stone. Enough of that! I see BK wants to be the the one who builds the UC Bearcats football program and he should not go anywhere AS LONG AS UC is committed to his football program needs.

As a neutral fan here, I do think he will be departing after this season. However, I hope he stays as we need quality coaches in the Big East and I've had enough of them being poached away (Petrino, Rodriguez, Dantonio, ect.).

Why can't Kelly want to settle into a team where he finally has his system setup? It would take him 2-3 years at ND to get his type of players in there. That has to be frustrating to keep starting over.

                        Watching Auburn/Bama:

Is it just me or are these bands a hundred - no wait - thousand times better than ours is? Defense is about to make a stand and they cue up the Darth Vader theme. It seems like ours only plays during time outs, and then, its a merry little ditty that no one has ever heard...

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that Kelly is gone to Notre Dame sometime before UC's bowl game (wherever that is). There's simply too much smoke swirling around the situation for there NOT to be a fire burning.

I think the only way UC keeps Kelly would be if Stoops or Meyer take the ND job, or if UC somehow makes the National Championship game and ND doesn't want to wait until mid-January to have a new coach/coaching staff in place.

At this point, the only thing you can do is hope that Mike Thomas has a good list of candidates prepared and that UC is ready to start talking with people the minute BK informs them he's on a plane to South Bend.

Simply put, UC cannot afford to whiff on the next hire. All the momentum and good work done by BK could be undone with one bad hire, given the fickle and frontrunner nature of Cincinnati sports fans.

You can give it a patriotic name, but it still sucks.

BS. It's not 1988 and that program will not be a national contender until they join a conference. They have had top 10 class after class and they'll be lucky to finish above .500. The cupboard is bare for next year and he'll have to start all over again. There's a reason they only have one bowl win in 20 years and it's not lack of coaching. He may take it but I wish at least the UC fans would not take it as a forgone conclusion just like the national media is trying to shove down everyone throats, all for another story. If he keeps saying he wants to be here, and UC is a destination job, but our fan base doesn't want believe it, what does that say about our program? Let it play out, enjoy the season, ignore the speculation.
