I just pointed it out, he had not garnered respect for UC as a program to get preseason rankings. I am not saying it is right and I totally disagree with it but that is how it is. That should change after this season barring a collapse in the game @ pitt and whatever bowl it may have be.When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail.Comment

For a lot of college marching bands, they live and die by the success of the football team. Everybody wants to play in a band where they have a good chance of going somewhere warm in the winter. Our football team just got really good, really quick, so it's going to take some time for the level of the band to catch up. Just think, four years ago our football team didn't even make it to a bowl game. Is it really fair to compare the band to that of Ohio State's... whose football team hasn't missed the postseason in, what, 500 years? I think our band is better than most people give it credit for, but I'm more musically inclined, so I notice things some people don't. Give it time.Comment

They talked about it during the Boise Halftime. Mark May said he thinks its a distraction, especially to the underclassmen and if he plans on staying to just end it and say hes the Coach of the Bearcats. Lou Holtz said not to lose that Notre Dame option and maybe if he goes some of those underclassmen will transfer with him. They both kind of snickered at each other and then the other guy (cant remember his name) said he understands that he may be leverging for more money and facility upgrades.Comment

If Notre Dame was undefeated, they'd be in roughly the same spot as us, maybe a spot higher. Texas, Florida, and Alabama all started the year at the top, and they haven't lost. Therefore, they don't get moved down. UC's only problem was having their undefeated season at the same time as five other teams.Comment

He can't say no because he isn't paid as much as Greg Schiano. Period. The end. If he made the 3m a year, then I would be more worried about him leaving at this point if he won't commit. Right now, what a lot of people perceive as his best better opportunity is about to come available, he has to use that leverage. Wouldn't you? He has to test UC. Everything we've done for him/because of him has been a stretch for our program. I expect if he stays, we're probably going to have to put him in the 2.5m a year range, or at least 1$ more than the next highest paid coach in the BE. (2.2ish)
He has said all of the things about his general happiness in Cincinnati. I believe him, I think most of us do. But just because he's happy in Cancun doesn't mean he can win a championship there, or he can build a sustaining program there. Unfortunately, we're not in a situation where we can be comfortable. We're 63/66 BCS schools in athletic budget. He needs total assurance that this thing won't go bust in 2 years.
From what I've heard about his relationship with the new President and MT, if he does leave, it will simply be because his projections of what we can be don't jive with his hopes for a career.
The 7-10 day thing definitely unsettled me a little bit. But i got over it. The more concrete thing for me is that MT is already doing damage control about 'this is bigger than BK, we'll be fine and continue to grow'. Which they also reported during the game. That means MT isn't entirely sure anymore where BK is.
Also, if Stoops is building a 3.5m house in Oklahoma, he has rich tastes... and his recruit could potentially follow him a la calapari. Stoops to me seems a little bit of a stretch because of the abysmal academic record of Oklahoma.Last edited by 08bearcat; 11-28-2009, 02:06 AM.Comment

1. Won his bowl game last season.
2. Beaten Syracuse, UConn, WVU and Illinois more soundly.
Just off the top of my head. The fact is, the Traditional Media™ has had an SEC Champ v. Texas national title game pegged for about 2 or 3 months. Nobody is crashing that party until two of those three (TEX, FLA, ALA) loses.#41
You can give it a patriotic name, but it still sucks.Comment

As I was sitting in the pavilion this year, it occurred to me that the placement of the band is poor. Why is the band in a position where they are facing away from 2/3 of the people in the stands? Why don't they sit with the students behind the end zone so the sound will project into the stadium?I dont know if its where I was sitting for the WVU game but their band was loud and I heard them clear everytime they played, couldnt even hear our band. Our band is too small. I love the band I just wish they could get a little larger and louder, dont care to much for halftime shows.Comment

I guess the old adage applies, takes one to know one.Originally posted by TheLivingLegendHow do you know who I am or who I'm not?
If offered, and Kelly declines he would be a complete clown. The writing is on the wall. UC better hope Stoops gets the call.
I hope, like all Bearcat fans, that BK stays for a long, long time. He has an opportunity to become an icon here and leave a legacy that would be unmatched. None of the other big name schools would offer him that, regardless of how well he does (save winning the NC year after year, which in this day and age is almost impossible). What I don't want is this to be a yearly occurence, just like when Huggins was here. If he does leave, let this be the year. If he decides to stay (which I think he will), let this be the last "silly season" that he is a part of for at least the next 5 years.Comment

So It's Kelly's fault that we didn't thump these teams? Never mind we played 3 of them with our backup QB, who happened to be a stud - lucky for us. Never mind when Oklahoma lost their starting QB they tanked. What are you saying? This is insane. We are 11-0. Pike threw 4 picks at the Orange Bowl last year, one of them inside the 20. We got stopped on 4 plays inside the 2 yardline. This is nuts.1. Won his bowl game last season.

And by the way...all the band haters - get off the band already. Sheesh. They play their horns, they march.Comment

That wouldn't have helped. If we started this year ranked 4th, we'd still be 4th right now. There is nothing Kelly could have done to improve our NC chances this year. We needed the top 3 teams to falter, and they didn't. That's the breaks.
As for the "7-10 days," BK explained that in detail in an interview which aired on Fox 19 last night. He was simply saying that was when the silly season will end. He was not threatening UC or saying he's leaving. Bob Greise made that up.Comment

Just ask "ole" sweater vest - wins a title, has had them in a BCS bowl, and the Rose Bowl, etc., and the fans don't like his offense, don't think he's creative enough, so they're looking around for a replacement. I have no idea what Kelly will do, but if he stays here and gets UC in a BCS bowl on a somewhat regular basis, finishes at or near the top of the BEast regularly, I don't believe anyone will ever suggest that we should be looking for a new head coachComment

Geez, these are 18-22 year old kids...I would think that the team (any team) would not function perfectly every game. There are injuries, sometimes the defense lets you down, sometimes the offense sputters, maybe there is a speical teams breakdown...Alabama never recovered from the Florida loss last year and Utah whipped 'em in the bowl game because the Utes had the emotion for that contest...it takes a special year with a lot of breaks going your way to trounce every opponent and go undefeated. Even with all their 5-star players and great coaches (Meyer, Spurrier) has Florida ever gone undefeated and won a NC? I think BK pretty much maximizes what he has - is he perfect? No! BK has made some questionable play calls - but I think he gets the most out of the talent and his staff. Just my opinion.Comment

I don't think anyone is going to argue with you about that, but given being at UC you have to go above and beyond to get recognition.Geez, these are 18-22 year old kids...I would think that the team (any team) would not function perfectly every game.
