Ben gudillli said it hasn't been adressed but they would like to know. Watch the video of the presser, the player he refers to at one point is Ben G.

If BK did tell the team he is leaving how does that help our situation? Can somebody please tell BK that all this is a huge distraction to the players and recruits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does he actually think they aren't on the internert or having family members ask them about the situation or getting messages from friends about it! or watching ESPN etc. etc. etc.
The issue needs to be addressed at least to the frikin players I mean come on. Does this not bug anybody else??? Not addressing it at all??? Every meeting or practice this is the big elephant in the room.Comment

I agree. That would deflate the team and then some. How pumped would the team be if he came out and told them right before the game he isn't going anywhere and that he would be announcing it to the world after the game? Maybe it is as much a coaching ploy as it is a political one? With Coach Kelly, you never know.Comment

It's not up to BK whether he goes or not. It's up to Notre Dame. If Notre Dame wants him, he will go. But I see possibly 3 things on the negative side from Notre Dame's point of view. This is just my opinion, and some things may or may not be true.
1. His speciality is offense. The talking heads sure have indicated that the reason ND lost close games was because of their defense. It makes you tend to think ND will look for a defensive minded coach.
2. His liberal slant (if true as suggested by others on this board) is somewhat of a neagtive. It may not be a big deal, but it is still a little part of the mix.
3. He is definitely a head coach/offensive coordinator combination. This sure didn't work out for Jerry Faust when did the same thing when he became head coach there. He eventually relinquished the offensive coordinator part. Charlie Weiss only reluctantly assumed the duties of OC when what's-his-name just didn't seem to be doing a very good job of it. It would seem that at a school as big as ND, they would prefer a head coach who doesn't do the offensive play calling. This would really cramp Kelly's style IMHO.
I think they will look for a good defensive coach from the pro ranks with the right kind of background.Comment

Unfortunately you are dreaming here. I think the only pro coaches they have interest in are Gruden and Dungy and both have already taken themselves out of the running. I agree they may look for a good defensive coach but I don't think it comes from the pro ranks. They failed miserably with Weis from the pro ranks already.Comment

Well you may be right. I don't follow pro near as much as college football. But do you agree with my points? Would they apply to a college coach?Unfortunately you are dreaming here. Attendance averaged 18,000 before BK. Attendance average expected with BK next year 34,000?
16,000 x $40 x 8 = $5,120,000
Seems to me that BK deserves a raise and that the university can certainly afford it. The danger is that the Big East is such a balanced league (BK's words), that the present success is not necessarily sustainable. And of course you can't give all the profits to the coaches when there are so many other needs.Last edited by girandola; 12-02-2009, 06:43 AM.Comment

If he's the next coach at Notre Dame, I'm not sure he's too concerned about missing out on Alex Smith at Cincinnati... sucks, but that's the way the game is played.Comment

Why 16,000? Why not 25,000? That equals 8 million...Attendance averaged 18,000 before BK. Attendance average expected with BK next year 34,000?
16,000 x $40 x 8 = $5,120,000

I am not terribly concerned about recruiting. I am sure BK is saying exactly what players want to hear, "I am the Cincinnati coach and will be here for a long time." (I just wish he would come out and say that to us)What I really wanna say I cant defineComment
