BK is under a TON of pressure right now. He's preparing for perhaps the biggest game of his career, with an outside chance at a national title game if he wins. He's focusing his heart and soul on this, when his dream job opens up. But the opening of his dream job threatens to derail what could be the pinnacle moment of his career.I don't understand why he would say this yesterday morning but not proclaim it at yesterday's press conference. Why would he say he will not address this team about this, as stated at the press conference? I would think if he knows he's staying, he would squash all the rumors and remove any distractions, whether he thinks they're there or not. I'll be glad come Monday, when we're outright BE champs and know a whole lot more.
He'd have to be some sort of superhuman to take this all in stride.UC MBA '08

it would be wonderful for them to offer him the job and he turns them down. that would be very fun to watch. i love watching the 800lb gorilla get knocked down. that said, i don't think he's their first choice. that's where this gets interesting. either way, i think he's shrewd enough to know this isn't as good a situation as some paint it as, personally or professionally.Comment

You may not believe it but yesterday after reading Pat Forde's column that Kelly should be ND's choice I emailed Pat Forde that BK said this on WEBN yesterday morning. Maybe I am giving myself way too much credit but it looks to me Forde called WEBN and verified that Kelly said he was staying.Comment

And it caused them to hire Bill Stewart as head coach, which was a major mistake. They'd have been better off losing that game.Nick Frame

How does anybody know what his dream job is? He may already be in it. A place where you can build YOUR legacy. If we were still in Conference USA, everyone would have a point. However, being in a BCS conference and having the backing of the AD, President, boosters and community is NOT an easy thing to obtain anywhere. He would be foolish to leave - especially if his family is happy. Greed is not always a good thing.BK is under a TON of pressure right now. That is what I tried to tell everyone about BK's goal. Paterno, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembelcher, Bear Bryant and a few others had built their own football program in the past. They become their legacy ones. BK is trying to become one of them. How does anybody know what his dream job is? He may already be in it. A place where you can build YOUR legacy. In other words a giant conspiracy between all the competing outlets?Good question. I think major media like ESPN probably did not like BK's answer and wanted to delay for a while to repeat the same question until BK gets boiled up answering "I will leave UC for ND" or something like that. It appears nothing got changed since yesterday. So, it finally got released this morning. I know major media wanted to see BK get the ND job IMO.
You don't really believe that, do you?
I would argue that Kelly announcing that he's staying at UC would be immediately aired by all outlets because it goes, or upsets, the conventional wisdom that he's the next likely coach at ND. Kelly rejecting ND would change the entire current dynamic of the story and create even more of a media feeding frenzy.Last edited by Lurker; 12-02-2009, 11:14 AM.Comment

Are you sure about this. I've been watching ESPN and ESPN2 and they haven't mentioned anything about that nor have they scrolled a message across the bottom. There is nothing on espn.com and rivals/yahoo.com. I'm not seeing anything on a Kelly comment.Comment

Yes. It appears it stops airing the BK message. Please check a few other BN members' posts who have seen it on ESPN. I am not sure why it was not posted on ESPN.com.I bleed red and black!!!!Comment
