If we were to hire him and Louisville hires Charlie Strong, the Big East would be heroes in the eyes of the Black Coaches Association!

The only ones on this list I'd say are confirmed out are Gruden and Dungy, because they're not currently coaches and have nothing to gain by lying. And maybe Urban Meyer, because he seems more trustworthy than the rest and issued an ironclad denial without leaving any wiggle room. ND won't want someone that gets hanged in effigy at their former place of employment.

I think Sumlin would be an excellent choice to replace Kelly if he heads for "greener pastures". Either way, after Dantonio and Kelly, I trust Mike Thomas to make a good decision if we have to make another hire. Another option could be Chris Peterson at Boise St. Do we think he might be interested in coming here?

Why not? Why should they care what Florida fans think of their coach?

Kerry Combs will be UC's next head coach if BK leaves. If he goes to ND with BK than Brad Jones at Central Michigan.

First of all, it's Butch Jones. And second, Mike Thomas is smarter than that. Kerry Coombs will not be the next head coach.

Peterson may never leave Boise St. If he does, it won't be for Cincinnati.
Our goal is for someone to be asked, what's the best program in the nation? And the answer be: Cincinnati.-Mick Cronin

Butch Jones will be the replacement if ND wants BK.

Butch is young... I think 42? Is going to win the MAC and runs a form of the spread that specializes in dual threats like Collloras.

Butch Jones was a strong canidate for WVU a couple years ago and got at least two interviews with WVU.

He would be an excellent choice and it wouldnt take us too long to pick up where we are now.

And if this job went to Kerry Combs it would be proof that Cincinnati football in the national scene was just a blip. (I realize some of you are being sarcastic but you know you've heard the calls for Combs already)

I wish the Colerain homers would at least use some common sense from time to time.

One point I would like to make in regards to BK leaving is age...he is now 48 years old. Lets say for argument purposes that he gets a 5 year contract with ND. He gets his "type of kids" into his system and for some reason or another (see Rich Rod's system at UM) it does not work in South Bend. After 5 years, BK would be 53 years old and now all of a sudden he's in the same situation as a Willingham/Davies/Wies....however those coaches were younger and/or ties to NFL so BK's window of "coaching legacy" certainly starts to close.

My point is that if he leaves UC and doesn't get the job done at ND...the earliest he can move to another head coaching job is probably age 55. (assuming he doesn't get fired beforehand or does the improbable and wins at ND) It would be interesting to find out how many head coaches won a N.C. after the age of 55 that were NOT "legends" (ie: Paterno, Bowden, etc.)

Why would it be improbable for him to win at ND? He's won, and won big, at every other place he's coached.

Well I think Combs is being groomed to be a head coach at the college level, so it isn't completely out of the question that he would get the job after Kelly leaves. Though I think Combs' chances of getting the job are higher if Kelly stays here for 3-5 more years.

Why would you say that? Notre Dame hired Gerry Faust directly from Moeller High without any college experience.
