(Ian) Happ, a junior outfielder for UC, was a pre-season All-American who has been ranked by MLB.com as the 16th best prospect in June's First-Year Player Draft, so it's likely that he'll have the chance to turn pro after this season. But he's not thinking about the draft or about where he'll be this summer.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for head coach Ty Neal as he takes his University of Cincinnati baseball team back to Bloomington, Indiana, for a midweek matchup against Indiana University on Wednesday, April 8. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
Freshman Jarod Yoakam (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) hit a single to left field in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and give the University of Cincinnati baseball team a 5-4 victory on the road at Indiana University on Wednesday night in Bloomington, Indiana. Yoakam also pitched two thirds of an inning to earn the win for the Bearcats.
Could this be a good sign for the future? Only 9 wins on the season, so this year is still shot, but it seems like a lot of freshman pitchers are getting involved. 3 wins over extremely solid competition in last 4 games. I haven't really followed UC baseball before, but hope this is a good sign for the future!
The University of Cincinnati baseball team has its sights set on a championship repeat as the program gets set to host the seventh annual Joe Nuxhall Classic at Marge Schott Stadium on April 14 and 15. Cincinnati, Xavier, Miami (Ohio) and Wright State all will compete in the four-team tournament designed to showcase collegiate baseball in Southwest Ohio while honoring its namesake, the legendary Reds player and announcer, Joe Nuxhall.
Miami and Wright State will kick things off with a 3 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday while Cincinnati and Xavier will compete in the nightcap at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, Xavier will play either Miami or Wright State at 3 p.m. while the Bearcats will face off against the remaining team. The losers of Tuesday games will play in a consolation game on Wednesday while the Tuesday winners will battle for the championship crown the following day.
If you didn't know that they had 22 freshmen, I think you would've assumed that the team is a joke but they are far from it. As of late, they are one of the hottest teams in the conference. They have won their last 3 series'. Against #6 UCF, Indiana, and Memphis to the list. Note: After the 2 losses to UC, UCF fell to #10 in the nation, and then fell again to #17. UC who are winners of 5 of their last 7, are a team that is starting to get in a rhythm.
Bearcats Travel to Houston for American Conference Series
he University of Cincinnati baseball team travels to Houston, Texas, for a three-game series at the University of Houston on April 17-19. The games will be played at Cougar Field at 6:30 p.m. CT/7:30 p.m. ET on both Friday and Saturday and at Noon CT/1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Newsrecord: Cincinnati local warms up for Bearcats' final stretch
Bearcat pitcher and Colerain High School graduate Ryan Atkinson is a local through and through, which could be seen as he walked through the Richard E. Lindner Center wearing his Cincinnati Reds hat.
The News Record interviewed Atkinson, a fourth-year dietetics student, Thursday as he is about to embark on the final stretch of his pitching career for the University of Cincinnati.
“I thought it would be pretty awesome to play in my hometown and for my family and friends to come see me play,” said Atkinson.
