Oscar back in Indy this weekend for the NBA All Star Game. The league is dedicating a statue of him at Crispus Attucks. Nice read.

The Big O was featured at the NBA All-Star Game in Indy, his hometown.
Via Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star — LeBron asked about his moment with Oscar: “I always recognize the greats. I know that what I do is possible because of those that came before me.”Comment

Oscar still looked good at the All-Star game. They announced him as a point guard. He was the first PG I ever watched and set the bar plenty high. Yes folks , this was the reality of Bearcat Basketball. We can't live on yesterday, but Oscar gave great memories as did many of the UC greats. Oscar did a double double all three years 33 points and 14 rebounds. Pretty good for a point guard.Last edited by leo from jersey; 02-19-2024, 07:11 AM.Comment

"O" and I were in the same graduating class - interesting to note that back in those days the discussion was not about being on/in a bubble, but what seed and where we were going to be playing.Oscar still looked good at the All-Star game. Oscar was actually a Forward in college, at least officially. Perhaps he was a point forward.Oscar still looked good at the All-Star game. They announced him as a point guard. I wish He would come to a game. I realize he is in Florida, but if CWM is sincere about the tradition, throw a major celebration. I would like to see a Danny Fortson night as well as other stars. They need to honor the old timers too as many are passing on.Comment

The Jacobs brothers ruined the Royals on purpose, to get an excuse to leave town. They later treated KC the same way. When GM Joe Axelson was asked whether the Royals were interested in drafting Pete Maravich, he replied “if we wanted a 6’5 guard, we’d have kept Oscar Robertson.” They had already traded Oscar for nothing, then they got rid of Jerry Lucas for aging Gus Johnson. They brought in Bob Cousy to make sure the team was wrecked, a worse coach never took a breath. Yeah, I’m still pissed about what happened to the Cincinnati Royals.Comment

Me too! When they traded The Big O, that was a sad day. Cousy was so jealous of Oscar, he activated himself as a player. The Jacobs brothers ruined the Royals on purpose, to get an excuse to leave town. They later treated KC the same way. According to Basketball Reference, and kind of how I remember it, "October 25, 1969: Traded by the Cincinnati Royals to the San Francisco Warriors for Jim King and Bill Turner."
Gus Johnson never played for the Royals.Last edited by Geaux Juan; 02-20-2024, 06:40 AM.Comment

Yeah, my memory was foggy on that one. The Royals initially traded Oscar for Gus Johnson, but Oscar as a 10 year vet vetoed that trade. Oscar wanted out, as Cousy was an a-hole brought in to tear down the Royals (trading Lucas was one of the first things he did). Oscar eventually OK’d a trade to the Bucks for Flynn Robinson and Charlie Paulk.
I remember when the Royals, tied for the longest losing streak in NBA history (I think 22). With the Royals up 5 with under a minute left, Cousy put himself in the game, where he committed three straight turnovers, the Royals lost and set the record.
Flynn Robinson played one year for the Royals averaging 13.3 pts 2 rebs.
Paulk played one year averaging 9.2 pts 4.7 rebs.
I still hate Cousy, Axelson, and the Jacobs brothers.Comment
