Also, he reportedly went through tightrope surgery several weeks ago in regard to the high ankle sprain that he incurred early last season. The tibia and fibula are connected via ligaments that hold them together. In the past, when the ligaments had torn, surgeons would insert a screw to lock the two bones together. That limited natural flexibility. The tightrope surgery involves drilling a small hole through each bone, then threading a plastic fiber through the hole, capping it off at each end.

With Dontay's health condition, he may not have been able to do the conditioning needed to play more often, and was never an every down guy. When he is on the field, he is a force/disruptor. I hope he sticks with it, rebuilds his stamina, and makes the NFL take another look. I hope he lets his agent find him something in CFL or UFL for a year, get some actual playing time to prove he can stay on the field long enough to add NFL type value. So far, he is only rumored to have been in contact with a team or two here and there. Maybe this is the motivation and opportunity he should seek
