Yes! This is the type of talent we need in the Big 12. Well done, CJC.

My niece played for Princeton’s girls team this year. I was at Preston high school a lot and I saw Kam play at least 10 times. I believe I’m able to provide a pretty thorough scouting report on him.

        Strengths:

        1. Size, length, physicality. He is a really big guard. He’s a very muscular kid for 15 year-old. I can see him maturing in to about 215 pounds on his frame without losing any athleticism. He is really long. His body reminds me of formal Ohio State in NBA player Jim Jackson, except he’s a lot more athletic.

        2. He is an elite rebounder, particularly on the offensive end. He has a nose for the ball and really attack the offensive glass.

        3. he is really a team player and he doesn’t hunt his shot. The Princeton players didn’t seem to accept him when he first came to the team in January. There seem to be some jealousy, but he diffused it, and despite being the best player on the court, he really did a good job of fitting in.

        4. He’s one of the best one Ball defenders I’ve ever seen in the high school game. I’m not being hyperbolic. He guarded 94 feet from day one, and has long arms and great feet. he reminds me of Stephon Castle when he was at UCONN.

        5. Elite bald handling and passing. His basketball IQ is off the charts.

        6. Hyper competitive. High high motor. He has a toughness and a nasty streak about him.

        Weaknesses:

        1. He is a good athlete, not an elite athlete for college. I think his athleticism will improve as he matures.

        2. He is all left-hand. He can’t shoot with his right hand at all. I never saw him use his right hand, even when he was right at the rim.

        3. His mechanics look clean, but he’s not a very good three-point shooter yet.

        4. Offensively he’s somewhat limited. I kept expecting him to take over games offensively, but his bag is limited.

good job. He did say he picked the Cats due to the way CJC broke down his game and addressed improvements basically. Great recruiting and now let's hope for great on court coaching.

In the BCJ Podcast following his commitment announcement, Mercer said he's recruiting Lakota West guard Josh Tyson hard. They've been friends and teammates since second grade. 247sports.com ranks Tyson (Class of 2027) as a Top 50 player nationally. Tyson was on campus this past Monday.

Also, on that podcast, Keegan Knickoson (I believe) said that Mercer's head coach at Princeton let him know that CJC is hitting the SW Ohio high schools hard, and has been in constant contact, on and off campus at Princeton, several times.

some had been wondering about the new nil donations and where were they being spent:

It looks like for the future and bring in the Cincy kids.
                From tOSU 247 :
Needless to say, Mercer’s commitment to new UC coach Jerrod Calhoun raised some eyebrows, especially among those who felt Ohio State held the inside track to landing Mercer. He was ranked as the nation’s No. 17 prospect in the 2028 class and now clocks in at No. 31 in the 2027 class after making this move.

“It is obvious that Jerrod Calhoun got some assurances that he would have some NIL money at his disposal to make the move from Utah State to Cincinnati,” one source indicated. “Mercer is, by far, the highest rated recruit Cincinnati has signed, maybe back to Kenyon Martin or, heck, Oscar Robertson for that matter.

“Ohio State and Jake Diebler offered him two years ago before he had ever played in a varsity game. But all of that groundwork seems like it was swept away with what was described as an ‘insane NIL deal’ from UC. Diebler has more money than he’s had before, but he still has to be careful how he uses it after some previous moves backfired...... Our guy said UC and Calhoun could be working to become a thorn in the side of OSU and Diebler.

“Ohio State has offers to two more 2027 players in Cincinnati and the one they want and need is guard Joshua Tyson,” he said. “Cincinnati had Tyson and Isaiah Mack-Russell in for visits this week and Calhoun reiterated UC’s offers to them. They would be great complements to Mercer, certainly.”

The word was that the NIL would boom and many former boosters would return. It seems to be happening.

Hopefully, Mercer may still grow another inch or two. He's still young. I did at that age.
