  • It's eerily quiet isn't it! I was really hoping to hear some definitive news on us acquiring a point guard this weekend. No news is good news perhaps?

      • While guys are committing all over the place, right now we have a roster of six players. We need another 7-9 just to be able to practice. On the Rothstein podcast, CJC indicated the next two weeks in the portal are critical to establish positive momentum, so hopefully this coming week will bring enough good news to walk me back from the ledge.

        • Brumbaugh to SMU

          • Some noise around Jayden Hastings, 6'9" defensive specialist C from Boston College. Posted a 2.3 BPM in his sophomore season (negative 1.2 OBPM with a 3.5 DBPM). Low usage on offense and a poor FT shooter (under 50% for his career) but an elite shot blocker (8% block rate, top 10 in the portal among players with 20+ mpg) and a good rebounder (11% OReb). Fouls almost 6 times per 40 minutes. Would be a nice complement to Allenspach when we need some rim protection.

                • Portal closes tomorrow night, by the way -- no one has to commit yet, but not a lot of time left for guys to jump in

                  • PG's are definetly falling off the portal... Kansas just landed Blyden, would have liked to seen him at UC.

                    • If Perryman plans on committing to UC, why is he taking his time? Not in panic mode, but this team will actually need (2) capable PG's to run the show this coming season.

                      • There are still 21 guards in the portal with 2.5+ BPMs (better than Tylen Riley). Not counting potential 5th year seniors or international players.

Perryman didn't play much in the back half of the season, struggling with turnovers. He didn't play more than 12 minutes in any of the last 11 games. In the last game of the regular season he had 2 turnovers in only 3 minutes. 29% turnover rate and 6 fouls per 40 minutes in 9 top 50 games. Perryman can certainly develop into a great PG, I just wouldn't count on it next year. I think we'd want him in a backup role.

Exactly! I would have taken Perryman as a backup fpor Brumbaugh. Not sure what the SMU connection was, unless the overpaid for his services.

Perryman is very much in the mold of Tillery, a young PG who started to earn minutes later in the season and is hoping to earn a big boost in playing time next season. If you are Tillery, do you want to compete with that guy? Especially when you consider Perryman was recruited by Calhoun. Plus we'll probably add a veteran PG who should be the starter. So Tillery would be competing with Perryman for backup PG minutes.

Transfer, probably make more money and find a better situation where you are either the clear starting PG (probably at a slightly lower level) or the clear first backup PG coming in off the bench.
As an athlete, you cannot be afraid of in-house competition. No matter where Tillery ends up, he is going to have to compete for a position. Nobody gives you the position; you have to take it. On the other hand, looking at both Perryman's and Tillery's stats from last season (both were freshman), Perryman's stats are a tad bit better. It appears Perryman was more featured in USU's offense. Plus, USU had a much longer season than UC as well because of post-season play. Tillery was better shooting from three, Perryman shot a better overall percentage. Perryman also shot 10% better from the FT line and had a better Assist / TO ratio. Neither player had impressive defensive stats.

Tillery and Perryman could have made each other better by playing against each other in practice. Playing both Tillery and Perryman at the same time during certain points in the game would have been interesting.

Although it is useless to have these types of discussions, it is interesting to ponder what could have been.
