When you enter the portal, you are giving up your scholarship and the players are aware of that. Now if a team decides to resign them they can but I would think most teams would let these players go with so many options out there if they’re not interested in playing for their current team.

I wouldn't throw big $$$ at Tillery, but I would have made him an offer. Thiam on the otherhand played himself into a big payday after last season. Regardless, I don't believe we have a shot on keeping him.

Perhaps Tillery was given an offer and his agent valued it as too little.

Low usage on offense and a poor FT shooter (under 50% for his career) but an elite shot blocker (8% block rate, top 10 in the portal among players with 20+ mpg) and a good rebounder (11% OReb). Fouls almost 6 times per 40 minutes. Would be a nice complement to Allenspach when we need some rim protection.
Sounds like a high motor / energy type of player. Shooting free throws, not fouling as much, and better shot selection overall are things can be coached if a coach has the wherewithal to do so. I would take a chance on this guy especially for the eagerness to go get some rebounds

It depends. If you look at the full season maybe not. But if you look at Tillery the last 3 weeks or so you could see he was figuring it out, and he was the most dynamic guard on the roster. I haven’t checked any stats to back that up, just going by what I saw. If Wes had just played him late in the UCF game, UC probably would have won and Wes would probably still be here.

At this point, I’d love to have either Riley or Tillery.

              • Tillery would be redundant now that we have Perryman. They fill the same role, both second year true PGs that showed potential but struggled in the areas typical of freshmen: fouls and turnovers. They each had a 26% turnover rate, which basically unplayable. He did play very well in the B12 tourney, but right before that in the last game of the season he committed 3 fouls in just 14 minutes. A week before that he turned it over 3 times against OK St. He had three 4 turnover games in conference play despite limited minutes. Tillery can still develop into a great player, but we shouldn't count on it next year. Perryman is in the same situation (though he posted a much better BPM because he gets to the rim a lot more than Tillery). You don't need to carry two guys like that. Riley would give us a veteran offensive creator so Perryman can fill the backup role next year.

Realistically, I’d like to keep Tillery, Thiam, Abaev, McKinley, Harris, James, but those are the guys everybody else will be after.
What time is Riley supposed to announce?
