I had heard that with the fact that UC would wait till 4/1 so WM would lose millions, but this way they split. UC goes on and gets a new coach and team while saving maybe 2-2.5 million. Regardless, I hope it comes true.

What possible motive would Wes Miller have to negotiate? If they want to move on before April 1 to get a hotter coaching prospect, he and his agent have to assume they won’t wait until April 1 for the price to drop. There’s no way for them to claim a firing for cause, so why would he be willing to negotiate.

No UC would use we will wait to 4/1 to get his price down as a negotiation strategy. WM would counter ok let's split the difference but pay me now. win win for both sides If you can say win win when talking about WM and UC's Ad. WM is owed around 9 if fired before 4/1 and 4 if UC waits. UC claims they will wait thus getting WM to lose 5 million. If the negotiate to say 7, wm will get more than 4 aqnd UC would be free to hire a new coach without having to pay the full 9 million.

        • If I’m Wes or his agent, I’m willing to call the bluff. Wait until April 1, and see who you can get then.

How reliable of a source? It's hard for me to believe they'd start negotiating before Monday, there's still a small chance that we sneak into the NCAA tournament. Wouldn't be great to have rumors of negotiating a buyout happening on the off chance that we get in.

Except it’s not a bluff. Maybe UC has already started speaking with other coaches’ agents. They could have a deal in place and then let Wes go on April 1 and he loses anything between $4.7M and $9.9M. He knows he’s toast at UC so why not try to negotiate the best deal UC will give him?

Pretty reliable, IMO. UC will not make the tournament. I have said that many times before. They never had any chance but to win the BigXII tournament. Now, even less than .01%.

he will get what his contract says 4.7 mill-- UC will wait him out as I am pretty sure candidates have already been in place, if not picked. If WM goes now he might get more than the 4.7.. If it is just split then it is 2.5 on top of the 4.7 -- That is a good buyout for a losing coach.

Both parties will want to get it over with & move on. UC wants to get the jump on other schools seeking a HC. CWM needs to do likewise. April is too late; best options are likely gone.

                        • If UC is legally permitted to negotiate a new hire while Miller is still active, I hope that they have been doing so for the past few weeks. They have to have a list of "star" candidates already prepared. The only benefit to UC for negotiating an early buy-out of Miller is to make the announcement sooner and get people lined up. However, if the candidate is a star, he may want to coach through the tournament before he makes an announcement.

wink wink it is done in private and won't be revealed until WM is gone and/or the new coach is out of the tourney. That pick really has nothing to do with WM negotiations as that is a separate issue. I said UC may have already picked the coach, but has not revealed it as WM is still under contract, but his)WM) dealings is a separate issue. I am pretty sure these things are done all the time and UC started the search early to back their hand if WM kept losing. I don't think Cunningham is that inept to have waited till WM was officially gone.

I don't know whether UC has a deal in place. I do think they have been talking with other coaches' agents, likely for weeks now. Any AD will have been talking with agents, especially one whose coach has not taken a previously perennial NCAA tournament team to the tournament in any of the years he has been the coach.

CWM is gone. It is a question of when that occurs and how much he will receive for parting ways.

                              • Yes nothing public about the new coach. I said he may have been picked and not he was picked. I am very sure that UC has been in touch with candidates regardless if picked or not. Cunningham and the deep pockets are not stupid.
