Here is one man's take on this past weekend in the Big 12. The last game that he summarizes is the UC-Houston game. Big 12 Basketball: Top Five Takeaways (Feb. 10 2024) (heartlandcollegesports.com)

I'm not sure if they'll get there. BYU reconsidered their offensive strategy after starting conference play 2-4. Over the last 5 games they've shot 36 more twos than threes. At that pace they'll have more twos on the season in just a couple more games. Still a pretty wild offense though. They took 46 threes against us!

Not a high major team, but North Florida leads the nation in three point rate. They have 116 more threes than twos on the season. Unhinged.

I find this funny because one of the things I noticed during our game against them is that their 3PT percentage was higher than the 2pt percentage.

Iowa State beat Texas Tech by 8.

TTU had 16 turnovers, and Iowa State had a 28-0 points off turnovers margin.

Barring some drastic change in the projections, it looks like we'll be playing in either the 7/10 game or 8/9 game on Wed, 3/12.

It'd be good in that it would assuredly give us a winnable Q1 game to start, but if we win, we'd likely face Iowa St or Houston in the Quarterfinals where we'd be a big underdog.

I would be open to playing Iowa State again in the conference tournament but would prefer avoiding Houston.

Big one in H-Town tonight. #10 Iowa St at #3 Houston at 9:00. Appears that Houston actually sold this one out. Two elite defenses. It's going to interesting to see which coach adjusts first and can get the offense in gear. Houston is 9.5 point favorite ?!?!

Houston has been destroying everyone at home. Nobody has been able to keep them within 15. They beat Texas Tech and Texas by more than 20.

UCF spent all evening heaving bags of cement over WV's 2-3 zone and fell in Morgantown, 77-67. The Knights fell to #71 in KenPom. They now are a borderline Q1/Q2 win for the Bearcats down in Orlando. They came in #68 and need to stay above #76.

UCF stayed in the game with a ridiculous 10 blocks, 6 by Omar Payne.

BYU held serve against Baylor, 78-71. The Bears led by 9 early, but it didn't take long for the Cougars to catch up and pass them. BYU led the entire second half.

The TCU @ TTU game was a "frog strangler" (pun intended). This rugged affair went back and forth, but the Red Raiders got a huge traditional 3-point play by Pop Isaacs to go up 3 in the final 30 seconds, then held on, 82-81. The win propelled TTU into 4th place by themselves.
