Scott Drew's controversial ejection stemmed from Big 12 memo and league finally grading its refs
https://www.cbssports.com/college-ba...ding-its-refs/
Hartness sending Drew to the locker room did not come as a surprise to some in the Big 12 for one reason: In mid-January, after CBS Sports' reporting on the pattern of bad behavior nationally with coaches constantly drifting onto the court, Big 12 coordinator of officials Curtis Shaw sent a stern memo to every head coach and every official in the league regarding bench decorum from all coaches and players. CBS Sports recently obtained the memo.
"Bench decorum has become a pressing issue and must be addressed," Shaw's memo reads. "Situations where head coaches are clearly on the court, head coaches are playing 'defense' on players near their sideline, assistant coaches that are standing during every play, and comments from players sitting on the bench directed toward their opponents must be addressed and penalized."
The memo stressed that "crews who do not handle these situations will be penalized."

The officials in this conference continue to be weird. Last night in Waco, Scott Drew got ejected. He's never been ejected in his entire career and doesn't even swear.Apparently he left the bench during play in the 1st half. The second technical was because he was crouched down slightly outside the coaches box. Meanwhile Oztelberger for ISU was out on the court during play at one point and got absolutely nothing. The game ended in a review after ISU hit a buzzer beater that was waved off as .1 seconds too late. Baylor 70-68.
From the AP recap
"Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades was critical of the officiating after the game. He said he planned to contact the Big 12 office.
“Tonight was an embarrassment for this league," Rhoades said. ”Scott (Drew) said it, we have the best basketball league in the country. And the officiating tonight did not match that. Period, end of story. This league needs to get better when we think about our officiating. And we have some great, great officials.
"But this particular crew tonight did not match the level of this game, and that shouldn’t happen in this league."
Drew, in his 21st season with Baylor, was assessed his second technical foul with 11 1/2 minutes left. That tech was for apparently leaving the bench area, the same as his technical foul midway through the first half.
“You pour so much into it, and if you’re the reason you lose, there’s no worse feeling,” Drew said. “And I thank God he didn’t make me feel that tonight, because I know if we’d have lost, and those technicals, those points, they add up. I’ve got to do better.
"We’ll send in the tape and see if the officials have to do better. And then go from there.”

Kansas destroyed Houston. Houston with a really subpar effort on D and Kansas just hit everything. Houston never got closer then 10 after halftime.Leave a comment:

Max Abmas just went on a personal 9-0 run to bury TCU. That's bad for two reasons: 1) Texas is a bubble team 2) TCU will probably drop out of the top 30 NET and no longer be a Q1 win for usLeave a comment:

Mostly. Here's the standings as of today. Outside of WVU and OK State everyone's pretty decent or better. The conference standings are just a huge logjam.

And, so it seems, unlike some of UC's recent conference affiliation mates, they are all GOOD!Leave a comment:

TCU takes down Tech , 86-78 in Ft. Worth. That does the whole conference a favor with everyone taking a half step closer to first place. We're 2.5 games out from first even at 3-4 in conference. The parity in this conference is ridiculous.

A couple of good games on tonight. I'm interested to see Texas Tech play against TCU. Tech is leading the conference standings and no one's talking about them.
