It did tonight anyways. Gonna be interesting to see how miller handles it going forward.

Good redemption after missing a FT at the end versus Texas

          Here is Newman in OT

          4:44 defensive rebound
          4:30 made three pointer
          3:24 made layup
          2:38 steal
2:02 foul (led to two made FTs)
          1:22 steal
          1:18 made two free throws

          5 mins - 7 points (2/2 FT, 1/1 three), 1 rebound, two steals

In 2021-22, Newman had double figures 9 times, with a season-high 14 in a blowout loss at Xavier
In 2023-24, Newman has had double figures 8 times with two months to go -- including 20 versus TCU and 18 at Xavier

            First off, great stat.

Second off, any ideas? UC beat Memphis on Senior Day in OT and they were likely ranked, just remembered UC beating Marquette in OT in maybe Sean Kilpatrick's senior season (possibly ranked as well). Who else has UC beaten in overtime in the last 30 years (that was ranked)?

UPDATE -- cannot confirm these are AP rankings, but here is what I could find from the last 20 years on ESPN.com, meaning the other games were from Huggins-led teams:

            2023-2024 #19 TCU
            2016-2017 at #19 Iowa State
            2014-2015 #19 San Diego State
            2012-2013 #25 Marquette
            2011-2012 #13 Georgetown (2OT – Big East Tournament)
            2003-2004 #10 Louisville
I know we lost OT games in 1993 against North Carolina in the Elite 8, and in 2001 against UCLA in the second round (the game where Leonard Stokes was tackled at the end of regulation with no foul call, when he scored 39 in that game). Maybe Borzello means regular season games?

The stat was dating back to 1994, so the 1993 game would not count

And UCLA was an 8/9 seed, so they would probably not have been ranked ... but very possible NCAA games would not count either way (also, remember the epic finish in 2015 to beat Purdue in OT with Caupain's game-tying two?)

Here is the list from a review of the UC record book:

                  1994 at #22 Marquette
                  1994 at #12 Minnesota -- UC was ranked 17th
1996 #21 Marquette (CUSA Tournament) -- UC was ranked 8th
                  1998 at #17 Minnesota -- UC was ranked 4th
                  2000 #17 Alabama (neutral) -- UC was ranked 22nd
                  2001 #8 Wake Forest
                  2004 #10 Louisville -- UC was ranked 17th
2012 #13 Georgetown (Big East Tournament)
                  2013 #25 Marquette
                  2014 #18 San Diego State
                  2016 at #19 Iowa State
                  2024 #19 TCU

                  • Day Day's go-ahead 3-point shot with 45 seconds left in the 2nd half was his first made 3 since the 19:02 mark of the 2nd half against Evansville.

Yeah, the ball hung on the rim for about 40 seconds before it fell through.

                      • I suspect this will be a season long clinic in ugly basketball. The talent is sufficient. No superstars. Skillings is unorthodox, but he plays his a$$ off and it kinda sets a tone.

I admit I have not been a super big Wes Miller fan. But, I have to admit he has these guys playing HARD. I've walked out of the past two home games feeling like they left it ALL out there on the floor.

So congratulations to Coach. Keep up the effort. More good things can still happen. I think we are going to be on a wild ride.

                              • On those stats, something that pops out to me is the assist to turnover ratio for Thomas. Thomas is about 3:2 but James isn't in the top 5 in T/Os. Hard to tell how that relates because James plays less minutes. It looks bad on paper to have your lead PG leading the team in turnovers per game even if he does handle the ball more.
