TCU heads to Clifton for the first time in a long while, if it can successfuly get out of DFW. Lots of canceled flights out of he Dallas Ft. Worth area due to cold weather. It's about noon here on 1/15 and it's 14 degrees outside. Fortunately the power is still on so far (knock on frozen wood) and we didn't get ice this go around. Maybe they'll get there.
The Horned Frogs are doing really well in league play after a 2 loss non con where they lost to Clemson in Toronto and Nevada in Hawaii'i. The lone confernce loss was to Kansas in Lawrence y 2 points.
Jamie Dixon can still coach although it's taken him a while to really get going at TCU. They have back to back wins at home over #3 Houston and #9 Oklahoma.
The guy to stop is Emanuel Miller who leads the Frogs in scoring and rebounding from the forward spot at 16.8 and 6. If you want to feel old, the backcourt is manned by Jameer Nelson Jr. and he is joined by Chuck O'Bannon Jr in the front court. They are well balanced with 4 guys averaging double figures in scoring and a 5th player very close to that. Any of them can go off at any point.
TCU:
AP 19 (as of just now)
Kenpom 22
NET 29
Bart Torvik 29
ESPN predictor say UC 65% chance to win. My opinion on that is..In the words of Ron Burgundy ... "I don't believe you!"

The TCU OT win extends our record of winning OT games against ranked opponents that began in 1994.

Yes we could have won both of them but immaturity done us in. It appears we are aging and progressing in every game.Originally posted by Oldtimer_UC_fan View PostWe were leading Texas with less than a minute. Missed free throws did us in. He was putting up shots pregame before TCU but wasn't dressed. I think they're taking it really slow because he has a bad injury history. Even if he's ready to go with the hamstring injury, he's going to be out of shape when he comes back. There's no timetable that I'm aware for him to return. He may not return this season for all I know.Originally posted by fmirzamd View PostWhen will Frederick be ready?

But the other way to look at it....watching the X game...I could see Cinci seemed like a more talented team, but X seemed like a more experienced team. Same thing with Texas. Abmas is a money player and he just had the edge in experience against UC guards. There is no reason to feel like UC can not get better as this years goes on. These guys are not really a unit yet. They fumble passes to each other, a couple of guys tend to put their heads down and go to hole or to just pull up for bad NBA threes.Originally posted by Oldtimer_UC_fan View PostThe shame is, we could easily be 15-2
Looking at this team, you have to tip your hat to Wes. I wasn't expecting him to make over the squad like this and hit the Big 12 running. I think there is more depth and talent on this team than any team that Mick Cronin had.

On those stats, something that pops out to me is the assist to turnover ratio for Thomas. Thomas is about 3:2 but James isn't in the top 5 in T/Os. Hard to tell how that relates because James plays less minutes. It looks bad on paper to have your lead PG leading the team in turnovers per game even if he does handle the ball more.

i've been happily surprised by skilling's rebounding - i sometimes think his shot selection is suspect, but he does go hard

I suspect this will be a season long clinic in ugly basketball. The talent is sufficient. No superstars. Skillings is unorthodox, but he plays his a$$ off and it kinda sets a tone.
I admit I have not been a super big Wes Miller fan. But, I have to admit he has these guys playing HARD. I've walked out of the past two home games feeling like they left it ALL out there on the floor.
So congratulations to Coach. Keep up the effort. More good things can still happen. I think we are going to be on a wild ride.

Yeah, the ball hung on the rim for about 40 seconds before it fell through.Originally posted by GoBearcats31 View Post
The stat was dating back to 1994, so the 1993 game would not count
And UCLA was an 8/9 seed, so they would probably not have been ranked ... but very possible NCAA games would not count either way (also, remember the epic finish in 2015 to beat Purdue in OT with Caupain's game-tying two?)

Day Day's go-ahead 3-point shot with 45 seconds left in the 2nd half was his first made 3 since the 19:02 mark of the 2nd half against Evansville.
