The Utes are really good. They carved the Bearcats up today, 92-65. Their offense is really good at getting excellent shooters open looks, hitting 16 of 32 from outside. They passed the ball quickly in a modern day style that's very similar to that of the BYU men. The ball hit the ground only when they drove or feigned a drive.

The Utes smothered Jillian Hayes the entire game (7 pts & 7 reb) with taller, quicker players, all of whom can score to boot. Tineya Hylton led the Cats with 16.

Dee Alexander Selected for 2025 McDonald's All-American Games

    https://gobearcats.com/news/2025/1/2...can-games.aspx

Incoming freshman Dee Alexander has been named to the 2025 McDonald's All-American Games, becoming the first Cincinnati women's basketball signee in program history to earn the prestigious honor.

Alexander is a five-star recruit, the highest-rated signee in Cincinnati history, and the No. 1 player in Ohio according to Prep Hoops. She was recently selected to the 2025 Nike Hoop Summit roster and the Naismith Girls' High School Player of the Year Midseason Team.

A star for Purcell Marian High School, Alexander has consistently delivered standout performances, including a program-record 50-point game in a 95-49 victory over Roger Bacon on Jan. 22. She has led Purcell Marian to three Ohio High School Athletic Association State Championships.

This team really has a penchant for comebacks. Hayes went on a personal 8-0 run to turn a 6 point deficit into a 2 point lead with under a minute left.

Tonight, UC played at ASU and trailed, 59-50, at 5:14. The Cats then stepped it up, eventually taking a 61-60 lead. The final minute was wild, with tons of FT's. From the 0:22 mark until the horn sounded, UC went 10-for-10 from the line and won, 73-66.

Jillian Hayes had 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals. She went 13-for-21 at the line.

With the win, UC are 12-6 (4-4 in B12 play). They're tied for 8th. By contrast, the other three teams that came to the B12 last year (BYU, UH, UCF) are a combined 2-23 in conference play. Space Cadet U are 0-8.

Tineya Hilton went off in yesterday's comeback win over Colorado. She scored 18 points in the final 7:30 and posted an incredible 15.2 net points and 33.5 BPM. 17 points from the field on 13 shots, 10 of 12 at the line, 3 steals, 2 assists, zero turnovers. Alliance Ndiba controlled the paint with 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. We needed those performances as Jillian Hayes fouled out in only 15 minutes.

The Cats sit at 3-3 in conference with a 2 game trip to Arizona up next.

The Frogs may be the best team in the B12. They're 15-1 (3-0) and have a full squad of dangerous scorers.

Hot take: I think timeouts should be eliminated from all sports. Make the games more like soccer. Other than built in breaks like halftime and media timeouts, the players have to implement strategy or make adjustments during gameplay. Coaches can guide things, but most of their work is done before the game.

In the final minute of regulation, if a team is inbounding anywhere in the backcourt, they may call time-out, allowing them to inbound at the hashmark in front of their bench.

I’m not at all a fan of this. Why should a team be able to avoid full-court pressure in the most critical portion of a close game, just because they have thus far pocketed a time-out? I understand why the rule exists in the NBA, as The League promotes its stars (more so than its teams) and wants them to have sufficient time to score. Perhaps I’m in the minority but I’ve always watched team sports, not for the individual players, but for the teams. For that reason, I hope the NCAA men’s competition committee never follows suit.
I’m with you on this, I hate the NBA rule. I’d rather see them bring back the NBA backcourt foul rule. If you were fouled before you crossed half court, you were awarded one free throw plus the ball. That would dramatically change the end of games now.
