They probably use something more granular like Synergy or ShotTracker. Or at least I hope they are. Those tools use video and algorithms that can give much more detailed analysis. They can assign primary defenders to each shot and analyze screens and things that don't show up in the box score. That's true advanced analytics. Some college coaches like Nate Oats have really embraced it. It's all over the NBA.

Omari Prince would be our guy. He's the video coordinator and his bio lists Synergy and a couple others. https://gobearcats.com/sports/mens-b...ari-prince/466
I don't know how much Wes considers his advice though. It's up to Wes how much he uses analytics. I've been skeptical since the day we hired Wes that he's an analytics guy. We wouldn't have a constant midrange greenlight if he was.

I use BPM because it's the best freely available data tool, and we have a consistent data set going back to 2008 with some nice, easy to use sorting tools developed by Bart Torvik. The NBA has some other similar metrics like PER and VORP that don't work as well with unbalanced schedules, so for college basketball I think BPM is the best metric for stat minded fans.

Maybe someday you guys will make an attempt to understand what you're ranting about. It's amazing how you can have such a firm opinion on something you clearly haven't even tried to learn about. BPM absolutely does measure intangibles and everything that you think it can't. Why do you think Josh Reed leads our team? He doesn't lead in any of the traditional stats.
Stats or not, this team is regressing. It's not too difficult to discern.

Should be an interesting game tonight.

I don't know how anyone can watch this team, they are so bad at everything, and this style of play is utterly boring to watch. Until UC gets a new AD and upgrades Miller and Satterfield and spends the $ to compete in the B12, I feel like they're just treading water. Meanwhile have fun watching guys jack-up 3's every other possession and play one-on-one NBA style yawn ball.

on a related note, since the peasants seem to be getting close to revolt, anyone hear anything about fball renewals? I'm on the fence. maybe some statguy could explain it to me, since i don't seem to know anything.

they lose to a team that had lost its last three games by an average of 20+ points. there has to be a stat for that - i'm just not smart enough to understand it.

It's not going to get any better anytime soon! Miller has lost this team, and it's possible UC doesn't win another game the rest of the year.

I was on the understanding that the stats say the two teams were about even. Maybe Wes was looking at that too hard.

Please stop. My point about ignorance was in response to you describing my post as stupid. Let's move on and not start this passive aggressive stuff.

The toughness and resilience have fallen off a cliff. I'm not sure why that happened, but it's clear. They are not going to win games in this league without being tougher. Getting back to basics and simplifying the gameplan might help but I fear its too late.

Couldn't agree more! I think it is to late, at least with Wes. Toughness and resilience left with Mick. As many others in this forum have said, Wes is probably here for one more year.

After that, maybe we will hire the right coach to bring the program back to prominance once again. A former Bearcat would be just fine by me!

so, he's pulling a "Satt"? i don't know if there's metrics on that, but I don't think that would be good.

That’s what I thought when we hired Tony Yates.

Count me among those who think ADs deserve some blame for this mess. Cunningham can't keep Fickell, and he approves the hiring of Satterfield and Miller. Bohn, at about the time he was getting ready to leave UC, lets Cronin get away and apparently is involved in the hiring of Brannen. Part of the problem, I suspect, is that administrators at all levels in the college environment seem to always wait for a crisis to happen before they even think about doing anything. OMG, Cronin is leaving, Fickell is leaving, Brannen , Satterfield, CWM are not working out, now what, they say to themselves, whereas they should have a plan in place for urgent matters like these that invariably occur. Which brings me to Miller. He has had his chance, and it's going from bad to worse. If it is not practical to dump him now or at the end of the season start looking for a new coach now, and hire him as soon as it is practical to do so.
