Second, allowing these guys to have agents. While the NCAA stated agents would be required to act in the best interest of the players, we know that’s simply not always the case. It’s where we are. I was once a HUGE baseball fan, now I no longer care about it or follow it; and the situation with college athletics is even worse.
Who says they aren't acting in the best interest of the players? Getting paid an extra $100k is certainly in the players interest. Loyalty isn't going to trump $100k or more for most players, it wouldn't for most of us either. It's free agency every year and entering the transfer portal is generally more likely to result in a pay raise.

I don't blame the players, I have no issue with them getting paid. The NCAA completely botched it by refusing to change until courts forced the issue. Now we need contracts and collective bargaining, but the NCAA is still refusing to be proactive. It's coming eventually, I just hope the pay-to-win era is a short one.

    • I was of the mindset many weeks ago that terminating Wes would actually be more affordable than what’s going to happen across the next year. I see no reason to believe that UC won’t be anything other than an afterthought in the B12 (both football & basketball) with these coaches. For a guy that can’t develop players and has very poor in game ability, the likelihood that next year is any different is pretty hard to imagine. Can UC really afford a return to 1980’s basketball? These players-while probably overly focused on money-can see what’s going on with Wes.

Agents will act in their personal interest first. Many of the guys who enter the portal don’t find another home, essentially ending their careers. Either way, I’m tired of all of it.

Skillings is attracting interest from some big-time programs. Good for Dan.

                      Current list of portal entrants:
                      Dan Skillings
                      Rayvon Griffith
                      Josh Reed
                      Tyler Betsey
                      JJ Rembert (walk on)
                      Arrinten Page
My guess is these guys are tired of losing. They do not see the possibility of playing in the NCAAs with Miller. Very sad for the program. Now add Mitchell to the list.

                      • Sorry to see Grifith go. With a bit of coaching and some support he might develop.

yep. him leaving, to me, hurts a little more, as he's a hometown kid. plus, i just really question if he got a real chance.

last year, everyone thought wes was a genius, and had put it together. this year, it's all fallen apart. coaching? personalitites? I'm not sure what, but, whatever it is, the 'cats are just about at rock bottom. new coach or not, this looks damn near like a full rebuild. just a sad situation.

Full rebuild, same coach feels even more rock bottom than full rebuild, new coach.

Like it or not, this is the current state of college basketball. As others have posted, it is happening to P4 programs who made the NCAA tournament. Nobody is exempt other than the blue blood programs and those programs are experiencing it too just to a lesser extent.

BYU will not have to disclose any information about what they are spending. The same is true to any private institution.
