Also, UC is bringing in a pro prospect at the wing spot that is taller than McDowell.

UC needs to go after some size in the paint. Miller needs to look for power forwards / center types,6'9" or taller, that can defend, rebound, and display some offense in the paint. Any smaller forwards would give UC more of what it already has.
McDowell is a lefty wing who hangs around the perimeter. Here are highlights, which are typical of such recordings. You'll see that he shoots from outside a lot in these clips, but also attacks the glass off the dribble. Naturally, there are no examples of him trying to guard anyone. (PAYWALLED)

      • Does anyone know anything about Gabe Dynes? He is a 7'3" center and transfer from Youngstown State. He went to high school at Simon Kenton in Northern Kentucky. He hit for 6.9 points a game and pulled down 5.8 rebounds. Third in the nation in blocked shots and was a 2-time Horizon League all-defensive team member. Is he worth a look for Miller? Hometown kid who is now in the portal. This guy probably will not last long.

There is one glaring drawback. He only weighs 225. He is lighter than Aziz. My guess is UC's strength and conditioning program can get him up to 240. What do you all think about this guy?

        • When does the Portal close? Any thoughts on guys staying because they beliebe they can win the NIL Crown prize?
Red and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.

          Intimidate! Dominate! Celebrate!

does he seem willing to mix it up, down low? if he has the propensity to do so, maybe adding some weight would allow him to be effective in the B12 - they need some bulk inside.

Worth a shot as a project. That kind of size can cause problems in limited possessions. But look at what he averaged in two top 100 games this year (Ohio St, Syracuse): 25 min, 4.5 pts (44% FG), 1.5 reb, 1.5 blk, 1.5 TO, negative 5 BPM. Only 3 total rebounds over 50 minutes. I doubt he can add 15 pounds without negatively impacting his mobility, which will make him an even worse rebounder. And he's a 45% career FT shooter.

Sean Miller says he can't answer yet if any of his players from Xavier will follow him to Texas. "Obviously I have amazing loyalty to Xavier and all of those kids have choices."

                • Sedz... No way CWM cant afford to have any "projects"... he's got one year to get this correct (make the tourney) or he will be gone. I still doubt that its possible given how the current roster is constructed... The odds of getting the right portal guys to create a B12 roster in one portal cycle... doubtful.

I think every roster can handle a couple projects. This year we had Griffith and Dzellat. If either of them move on or are able to join the rotation, we'll have room for another project. That gives you enough flexibility to absorb 3 injuries/busts and still have 8 rotation players.

thinking back to the old indy jones movie, wes did not choose wisely for this season. he loaded up on the mid height, skinny athletic wing guys, and disregarded an inside game. h can't do that again - it'd be idiotic. he's safe for next year, due the buyout, but, if he's reading the room, he should be feeling some heat. he needs to find and bring in guys who can deliver next year.

                          • I do not think Wes was not prepared… he had Tyler, aziz, and page… if page panned out to his ranking out of hs and McKinley could have filled in even 5-6 minutes a game… I think this team would have been different… injuries this year played a big role of not making it to dance and based on UNC getting in tourney with 1 quad 1 win… it is not out of line to say tourney would have happened with a couple more wins. Wes said that he will address the physicality in the portal… that is why I would prefer we do not go after kids with same frame as aziz and Mitchell at the 4-5
There is only ONE first time!!!

Dead on! This TEAM can't afford any PROJECTS... We already have enough of them sitting on the Bench.

In order for Miller to be successful in the Portal. He needs impact players
