Mike Sharavjamts, a lanky 6'9 junior forward from Mongolia, is portaling:
22-23 at Dayton
23-24 at San Francisco (NIT opponent)
24-25 at Utah (15 points over the two games this year)

7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists with underwhelming shooting percentages this season at Utah

South Carolina ... The Mongolia native is sure making his way across the USA

Not sure I like seeing social media posts from our players who enter the portal, yet continue to use our facilities to practice. I know a few have left open the possibility of returning, but to me you're either in or not and once you enter the portal, you become a student (assuming they're still taking classes) and should only have access to resources available to enrolled students. Once you fully declare you're a member of the team, then you can access the arena floor, locker room, etc. In the new age of NIL and the portal, I no longer believe in "Once a Bearcat. Always a Bearcat."

Looks like one of our current targets is Jalen Celestine, 6'7 215 senior wing from Baylor after 3 seasons at Cal. He's a three point specialist, a career 38% shooter who doesn't do much else. Low usage, not much rebounding or passing, just ok defensively. Posted a 1.9 BPM last year.

Celestine is a low usage floor spacer. He had the highest three point rate on Baylor (attempted a three every 9 possessions), but he only got to the rim 16 times all season. Not a creator, slasher, or rebounder. He had an OReb rate under 5% last year and under 4% for his career. Those are shooting guard numbers, but I imagine he would be playing a lot at the 4 for us. He doesn't turn the ball over, with a TO rate under 11%.

Every single one of Celestine's 48 made threes this season was assisted. If I had to come up with a comp, I'd say Jermaine Sanders.

The Portal is an exploration. Scholarships are renewable annually, and the coach may have told a couple players they're welcome to test the market, but you're also welcome back. We don't know every situation and there are players like Rayvon and Betsey in the portal that I hope come back to UC. One of the issues I have with the portal is that players are still in classes, and I encourage them to stay in class during the process. Who cares if they use our facilities and hang out with our players? It may be a good thing in the end.

As I've mentioned a couple of times previously, Durugordon is a high usage slasher and rebounder. He's the complete opposite of Celestine. As a pair they would give us versatility at the 3/4 spots.

Travis Branham (247) says UC has shown interest in Cal transfer Andrej Stojakovic (Peja's son). Unless he sets up a visit, no chance here. I think he may end up at like Illinois but lots of heavy hitters here.

Elite slasher with a 4.0 BPM. Gets to the rim and FT line 6 times each per game. I'd love to have him but somebody would be bumped off a guard rotation spot.

Jermaine Sanders was very good on defense. You are right. Sanders was primarily a three-point shooter on offense. No slashing and did not get to the free throw line much. Very under rated on defense.

Jeff Borzello: Today is the final day of the transfer window for men’s basketball, meaning all players that want to transfer need to file their paperwork by midnight. The NCAA aligned the undergraduate and graduate dates last year, so the lone exceptions are those with coaching changes.
