We've made contact with a couple of guys in the portal.
Jacari White. 6'3 guard from North Dakota State. This guy can actually play despite the small school vibes. He has one to play thanks to the JuCo ruling
Wes Enis, 6'1 guard from D-II Lincoln Memorial U . Shoots 40% from deep on a high volume of 3s. Has two years left.
Before anyone looks at these guys and wonders why we're recruiting them and why the recruiting strategy seemingly changed, Go look at what Drake U did in the transfer portal this season.

Found this on Enis. It's paywalled but apparently he's a top 5 guard in the portal?

As far as strategy goes, I'm not sure there really is one. However these guys are from way smaller programs than the guys we've been bringing in so far in the portal era. I don't think we've ever recruited a portal player from D-II before for example so maybe there's been a shift in thinking with the new GM on board.Brent Wyrick

Maybe Miller is hitting the D-II scene because players are cheaper to get. I saw what Drake did with that really small lineup to Missouri. Guess who Drake plays next? Texas Tech. That should be a good game. Two wing-oriented teams. Just because Drake can pull it off does not mean that Miller can pull it off. To me, Miller's teams work best when he plays two bigs.
Speaking of big men. Does anyone know of any bigs that UC may be looking at? As it now stands, McKinley is the only viable big man still left on the roster.
How many guards are enough? There are two freshman guards coming in already. UC already has a roster full of wings and guards, not unless Miller expects to lose a number of guys. From what I have been reading, Miller appears to feel that most of the players are returning.
It really bothers me that Miller appears to think of his big men as secondary. He always seems to think of his big men last. Think about this for a second, UC lost every game this year to teams that play with the two bigs at the same time. Hopefully, Miller will think hard about roster construction this time. I have nothing against the wing lineup. However, there are times when the wing lineup is not big or physical enough to win the game. That is when the bigger lineups are needed. Miller needs to think about playing different ways with different size lineups.Last edited by leeraymond; 03-21-2025, 11:25 AM.

Decent centers don't grow on trees and the ones that are out there command lots of NIL cash in this era. I'd settle for Aziz 2.0, a rim protector and rebounder. I'd rather have the broad shoulder beef at the 4 spot.Brent Wyrick

Another example is Colorado St. Look at what their all wing lineup is doing to Memphis's huge frontcourt.
