In a close game with time running out, the weaker team will always find a way to lose. UC plays the way it plays because Miller does not hold the players accountable for their mistakes. It hurts the team and leads to low performance. The players play that way because they know that they will STILL play. Nothing motivates a player to play mistake free basketball like spending time on the pine. Miller just does not know what it takes to win.
"You cannot win with knuckleheads on the road", Kelvin Sampson. Tonight, UC basketball, in the last 4 minutes of the second half, was an excellent case in what happens when a team full of knuckleheads play against a decent team.Last edited by leeraymond372@gmail.com; 01-06-2026, 10:41 PM.

Cunningham is the true problem. I criticized both of these incompetent hires at their appointments. There was nothing about their backgrounds that said they would be successful here. This isn’t going away anytime soon. Don’t go to games until it does. Pepper the BOT’s daily with emails .
Per Lance today.
Bearcats and Buyouts:
Contract and buyout status for Scott Satterfield, Wes Miller and John Cunningham.
Miller received a two year contract extension from John Cunningham, Director of Athletics, during his second season (December 14, 2022). The extension came four days after a home loss to Xavier in the Crosstown Shootout. UC was 6-4 at the time. The Bearcats had gone 18-15 overall, 7-11 in the American, in his debut season. They had lost 6 of 7 and 8 of 10 to close his debut season.
The extension upped Miller’s average annual salary from $1.31 million under the original contract to an average annual salary of $2.95 million.
Miller’s remaining contract: $13M
2025: $3.1M
2026: $3.2M
2027: $3.3M**
2028: $3.4M**
**Extension years
Miller buyout owed:
If UC moved on from him before March 31
2026: $9.9M
2027: $4.69M
2028: $1M
2029: $500K
(Per The Athletic)
Satterfield’s remaining contract: $11.7M
2026: $3.8M
2027: $3.9M
2028: $4.0M
Satterfield buyout owed:
If UC moves on from him between now and the end of his contract, he is owed 70% of his remaining pay. (Per The Boardroom)
Today: $8.19M
After 2026: $5.53M
After 2027: $2.8M
John Cunningham
According to Justin Williams (The Athletic), Cunningham received a contract extension in August of 2023. His original deal, through December 31, 2024, was extended through June 30, 2028.
The extension, approved by the Board of Trustees in April 2023, included an initial salary increase from $475,000 to $650,000 starting July 1, 2023. Cunningham’s salary then increased by $25,000 annually up to $750,000 for the 2027-28 academic year.
Cunningham buyout owed:
Before June 30, 2026: $3.2M
Before June 30, 2027: $1.6M
Before June 30, 2028: $900K
Cunningham also fired basketball coach John Brannen for cause, and the university paid out $2.75M to Brannen as a settlement.

UC has now lost 5 of its last 7 games and is 0-6 against Power Conference and Big East schools. It gets worse. UC will play UCF on Sunday. Although UCF will probably lose its road game tonight against Oklahoma State, it has wins over Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, and Kansas. Also, UCF is currently nationally ranked at #25. UCF is 12-1 but will more than likely be 12-2 about time it plays UC.
UC cannot win this one. Look for UC to be 0-7 on national TV and 0-7 against Power Conference schools on the season by next Monday. Probability is not on UC's side and will likely not be on its side all season.

That's a sure tell that someone is over their head and overwhelmed at their position is when they start deflecting blame off of themself and onto someone else. Maybe CWM could coach in a different era , say the same era he actually played ball in, but in this present climate of transfer portal and players getting paid he's completely clueless, lost, and inept at managing the game as it is now. And it's starting to fester. As someone else on here earlier said, he's starting to feel the heat. And blaming TN and others outside is in my opinion is as low as one can go. He's not gonna turn this around he don't have the skill, don't have knowledge and ai looks as though he's losing composure as well. I don't understand the mindset of JC and the board of UC to have fought, cow towed, begged, and jumped through all the hoops in order to enter the premier college bball conference and a power four conference in football and hire two average coaches both who were not outstanding in their current circumstances, and then relying on them to put the two, "money" programs into relevancy again. If I was a conspiracy theorist I'd bet that as part of the deal of entering into the B12, it was stipulated that UC had to mop the floor of the basement for so long before they became of competitive again. That way it don't make any difference who coaches because your programs stuck in your own lane until your release. I'm afraid that this entering into the B12 just may be the end of University of Cincinnati athletics. But one thing for sure is I'm not paying these streaming services any more money just to watch this mess and get upset every game.

Going back to last season, Coach Miller has now lost 5 straight conference games and has lost 15 of 22 overall. No matter what type of metrics are attached to this record, it does not look good for Miller. I am sure that if money was not an issue, UC probably would have parted ways with Miller by now. Because of bad contract negotiations, UC is currently stuck with him and it is very little that it can do to make this horrible situation better.
There is a part of me that thinks that if Miller truly cared about the players and the program, he would step down and let another one of the coaches take over. Miller is not going to get better at this point. Thus, he is not going to make the program better. The honorable thing to do is step aside and give somebody else a chance to salvage the rest of the season for the players.
This is bad.Last edited by leeraymond372@gmail.com; 01-06-2026, 11:41 PM.

60 points in 64 possessions. That's 0.94 points per possession, under 1 yet again. Only 16 rim attempts and 9 free throws compared to 46 jumpshots. Just an embarrassing offensive scheme. We won the rebounding battle. We rebounded 24% of our misses and allowed West Virginia to rebound just 20% of theirs. But we had less total rebounds because we missed a boatload of jumpshots. This is a case where the offensive scheme problem spills into other areas. Casual fans will think we got outworked on the glass. Nope. We were just chucking up bricks. We won the turnover battle. We had more assists, more blocks, more steals. You simply can't take that many contested jumpshots and expect to score. We're still bringing defenders to the ball in 2026. We don't get to the rim or the stripe. We don't get open catch and shoot threes.
Celestine was our best player with 3.6 net points, making 5 of 9 threes. McKinley was next best with 1.8 net points, going 3 for 3 from the field with an offensive board in just 9 minutes. Day Day, Harris, and Tillery were also on the positive side.
Thiam was our worst player with negative 3.6 net points, going 2 for 6 from the field and zero FT attempts. Abaev was just behind with negative 3.1 net points. 1 for 5 from the field and 1 for 3 at the line with no assists and a turnover. I never would have thought his offense would be worse than his defense, but it's been that way all year. Jizzle had 4 steals but ended with negative BPM thanks to scoring just 8 points on 13 shots with no FTs and 3 turnovers. Baba was neutral, leading in DBPM, rebounds, and assists but only scoring 4 points in 35 minutes with no FTs. No FTs is a theme. Take away Abaev's three point foul, and we only had 6 free throws from attacking the rim. We don't put the defense in compromising positions.

He's converting 51% at the rim this year. 22% from midrange. 19% from three. That adds up to 41% effective field goals, exactly the same number he put up last year. Slightly better than 2021 David DeJulius, believe it or not.Originally posted by SKell82155 View PostWould like to know Buck’s conversion % at the rim. Look up “forcing things” in the dictionary & Buck’s picture is there.

Another first-year coach new to the BIG XII, Ross Hodge, has beaten Miller. How many first-year coaches have beaten Miller?Last edited by leeraymond372@gmail.com; Yesterday, 11:45 AM.

Wow, at the rim % is about twice as high as I thought.Originally posted by sedz View PostHe's converting 51% at the rim this year. 22% from midrange. 19% from three.
