Understood, I'm just saying I'll be surprised if he's not let go. If I'm the University I want to make a clean sweep of the athletic department. I have a feeling we'll be talking about this in December as well. I think a Satterfield fails again he'll be gone as well.Originally posted by London 'Cat View Post
I'm not saying anything about how he performed. Just asking who will stay and go with Wes leaving.

at least Cunningham showed he could pull the firing trigger unless it was the deep pockets. I am for more in December too. I want Satt to make it, but so far, he hasn't.Originally posted by BearKatz View Post

I don't know if Cunningham had any other option. If he didn't fire Wes, the deep pockets would be asking for his head instead. He made the right choice because it was the only choice. Let's see how he handles this from now on.Originally posted by leo from jersey View Post

Hey GoBearcats31, can you please provide that list of coaches that UC is looking at? I cannot see the piece in the Cincinnati Enquirer. It is blocked out. Thanks.Originally posted by GoBearcats31 View PostScott Springer's list of candidates

(Does not seem like a very serious list...)

Jerrod Calhoun, Utah State head coach, former Bob Huggins assistant at WVU
Tony Skinn, George Mason head coach
Bryce Drew, former Valparaiso and Vanderbilt coach, currently at Grand Canyon
Eric Olen, New Mexico
Ryan Miller, Murray State
John Groce, former Illinois coach, now at Akron
Travis Steele, Miami (OH)
There are others that the article lists as long-shots. Not certain how reliable this list is either.Last edited by London 'Cat; Yesterday, 04:50 PM.

Chad on the Moe show said that the buyout has not yet been done, but WM is. They have not announced the firing, but there is no restrictions on interviewing the candidates. Chad said this is all on Cunningham . If he had kept WM and they didn't do well, it might be his job. I am sure his job is on the line with the new hire, Chad did say that WM did have some deep pockets on his side. Interesting.

I have a feeling this came from Deep Pockets. I think of Cunningham had his way Wes would still be here. I think Satterfield is next, unless he performs this year.Originally posted by leo from jersey View Post

Groce is a coach with a highly competitive spirit. However, his time at Illinois was not his finest hour. For instance, he averaged 15.2 losses a year the 5 years he was at Illinois. Also, he earned one NCAA birth during that time and did not earn any post-season playing opportunities his last 2 years.Originally posted by London 'Cat View Post
Groce from Akron is an interesting option. Not sure if coming from Akron to the BigXII is optimal, though it worked once before for UC.
He has done fairly well at Akron. He has won 20 games 4 years out of the 7 that he has been there, He has averaged 11 losses a year while at Akron. For his career, Groce has averaged 13 losses a year.
In closing, Groce is another high loss coach that appears to be better suited for mid-major level competition.

Read my above post. Chad B said some were on WM's side and Cunningham knew his job was on the line. I would imagine that you are right as more deep pockets had to be for the firing.Originally posted by BearKatz View Post

I disagree with your thoughts about not waiting until April 1 and taking the cheap way out. I believe it would be a 4.1 million in savings to do that. That isn't cheap. Imagine some of the players that could be bought with that amount of money? I think it is fiscally irresponsible to fire him now. Put it another way...we just gave Wes 4.1 million to not work for 18 days.Originally posted by BearKatz View PostAnd the university got one thing right.. they fired Wes before the weekend. You have to make a statement that this mediocre coaching will not be tolerated any longer!
Can't wait until April 1st and always take the cheap way out. The cheap way out has gotten us nowhere so far. We're right back to square one again, hopefully they'll get it right this time and hire a proven winner.
